In this 75 minute hands-on guide, Jim Masterson shows 24 specific techniques to loosen muscles and increase performance, as well as over 30 tips for a successful treatment. Most importantly, Jim shows how to use the horse’s response to guide your treatment. Once you know the 8 responses to look for, you will know exactly where to work, and for how long. This is a step by step guide, and each technique is clearly filmed and explained in detail. Jim shows a complete treatment that covers the neck, shoulder and back. I learned way more than I expected about therapeutic equine massage. I think anyone who rides will enjoy watching this guy handle a horse. Even if you don't ride but you have horses - what could be better than making sure they are calmer, less injury-prone and moving at their best? This guy knows his stuff! Watch the DVD a few times (very closely after the first time - after you have tried some of the techniques) and you can relate to a horse like a wise old cowboy. He covers a lot of territory but I think I now know almost as much about giving a horse a massage as some licensed massage therapists know about giving people a massage (hope my massuese doesn't read this).

Anybody with an interest in bodywork for horses should own this DVD. Jim explains things very clearly and the DVD is very well put together.

I was able to use the techniques after my first viewing fairly well just by following a few notes that I took. Subsequent viewings of the DVD and sessions with my horse have allowed me to get a better feel and more confidence resulting in more effect from the work. Using the Masterson Method has allowed me to find and release areas of tension on my horse that I did not know she had.

I agree with the reviewer who said to watch the DVD very closely after the first time... I picked up many more subtle details the second time through.

I live here in Iowa and have been to TWO weekend seminars of Jim's. This process is amazing and it is great to get the one on one instruction from Jim Masterson. I don't own horses, but I volunteer at an equine rescue with 30 horses rescued from abuse and neglect - or dumped because of medical issues. I highly recommend the DVD and also for anyone who can go to his clinics. He is also just starting to offer certification!

The laid-back tone and easy manner of this video, especially the wonderful demonstration horses, takes equine massage right to your own barn to apply to your own horse. Some of the techniques are a little advanced for a non-professional to apply, but I found that by incorporation the concept of "touch-response" in a good top-to-tail grooming session not only relaxed and soothed my middle-aged mare, and worked out her "kinks", but resulted in a much more vigorous and willing animal with great flexibility right from the mounting block. The extra twenty minutes in grooming is well spent - you get in back in more actual ride time!

My show mule has been lame from a pinched scapular nerve, off and on for about 5 yrs. His current chiro retired and the last one did more harm than good. I live in an area that there aren't any chiro's to choose from for about 300miles. I ordered this as an attempt before hauling to denver 5 hrs away.

I can honestly say, wow. I did everything he suggested, wrote notes and used them off the video and my mule is completely sound. It was his neck as usual, and everything he offered for treatment was spot on.

He did a great job showing the angles he's working at, the horses reactions and releases and how he handled the situations. I owe alot to this guy for what he did to help me with my mule because it would of been a 5hr one way drive next weekend had this not worked.

This is well worth the money and something you want to keep, and take notes with you to the barn when you go.

This video is well done. Good instruction, not boring, clear explanations and helpful 3D segments of skeleton and such. I purchased it to help my horse with back problems and got so much more out of it. I could see immediately results and was so enthusiastic that I went on to take the classes offered. You can easily learn the basic exercises from this DVD, if this is your learning style. There will be a book out in November, which will help as well.
