As Glendaal, you wake to a horrifying scene. Evil forces have reduced the town of Galedonia to rubble and turned the villagers into mutant zombies and demons. Your father, the wizard Shadax, must be found, for only he has the magical powers to challenge the evil Sonia. The search for Shadax takes you through overworld and underworld battle zones, from strategic attack positions high in the clouds to eight mysterious dungeons below -- loaded with ghosts, wind demons and traps galore. Moving from dungeon to dungeon, you'll search for the hidden mystical tokens which must be found to complete a game so real that it's hard to believe it's really a game!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game with Big Bug, November 18, 2009
By
William Michaels (Hillsborough, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Equinox (Video Game)
I have not played this game since it came out in the 1990's, so I'm working off very old memory. It came out three years after it was initially announced, but still had a MAJOR bug in it that forced you to restart the game after getting about 80% of the way through. Anyone starting out on this game should consult an Equinox guru, before getting halfway through, to learn how to avoid this problem. (This bug is the only reason why the game doesn't get my fifth star.) Otherwise, Equinox is a huge, attractive, challenging, but not impossible 3-D dungeon romp. The ability to save every bit of progress you make is a great leap forward from its NES predecessor, Solstice, which, lacking this feature, is for platform aces only.

Worth trying to find a copy.

1.0 out of 5 stars PRETTY MUSIC, GOOD GRAPHICS, TERRIBLE GAME... 2.5 OUT OF 10, November 13, 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Equinox (Video Game)
Equinox has some fairly interesting ideas up its sleeve, but overall it's very poorly executed and it ends up being terrible. If you should come across this game, avoid it. Only anger, frustration, and hatred await you if you play this terrible game.
WHAT THE GAME IS: A platformer that tries to mix 2D and 3D camera angles and RPG elements together. There really isn't much of a story, you control some weird-looking guy who looks like he got pulled from 1001 Arabian Nights kind of world.
GRAPHICS: This game is pretty and I love the level designs, there was a lot of love and care that went into those. But even those have flaws because they are littered with spikes which kill you instantly if you touch them.
MUSIC: This game has great music that is even worthy of its own CD soundtrack. Too bad the rest of the game can't be like the graphics and music.
SOUND: Annoying death sounds from your stupid character when you die unfairly.
GAMEPLAY: This is where the whole experience crushes itself. The platforming is terrible, and some how the developers managed to screw up character movements on the SNES D-pad (How do you pull that one off?). Your character jumps like he's on crack. He can jump high, but chances are he's not going to land where you want him to, due to the horrible camera. Because of the spikes, you could literally walk into another room right into spikes therefore ending your life over and over again (No wonder they give you like eight lives, they knew you'd die a lot). Not to mention, this game gives you know clue what you're supposed to do, or how to unlock things.
OVERALL: This game should be avoided at all costs, it may have pretty graphics and music, but everything else sucks.
THE GOOD: Pretty graphics and music.
THE BAD: Everything else is terrible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare treasure that slipped through the cracks..., October 26, 2007

This review is from: Equinox (Video Game)
Equinox, or Solstice II is the SNES sequel to the NES game, Solstice.

The best review with great pix that Ive seen of this game was done by Flyingomelette.

I can tell you I agree with every word of that review & just add that I have had this game for over 10 years & due to life getting in the way I have never made it to the final dungeon. Its a tuff game to play but primarily because of the SNES 3D technology & as the review stated, sometimes you have to literally be pixel perfect to complete an action.

But it is absolutely a fun & visually stunning game & the soundtrack is a pleasure. Sometimes Ill turn the game on & park the hero in a safe place & let the music just play in the background. ( Ive gotta figure out how to record it...)

But this is probably my Super Mario or Legend of Zelda as far as video games are concerned. I think this is one of the great games of its time & I have not seen anything quite like it anywhere.

You can get this game very cheap now on Amazon or Ebay, so if you have an SNES console in working order, dont let this game slip by without giving it a try. Youll be missing out on rare & unique game that just fell thru' the cracks.
