More About the Author

Richard Baker is an award-winning game designer and a best-selling author. He's worked on the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS game lines since 1991. Rich traces his D&D experience back to 1979, when he began playing the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS game as a 7th-grader. He spent a significant amount of his high school and college years playing D&D at every opportunity, and after serving as a surface warfare officer in the United States Navy, Rich decided to take a shot at working on the game he grew up playing - and so he joined the staff of TSR, Inc., and became a game designer. Rich's list of D&D design credits numbers over 50 game products, including the Origins Award-winning BIRTHRIGHT Campaign Setting, the ALTERNITY Science Fiction Roleplaying Game (which he co-designed with Bill Slavicsek), and the newest edition of the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS game. He has also served as creative director for the ALTERNITY and FORGOTTEN REALMS game lines. As an author, Rich has published eight fantasy and science fiction novels, including City of Ravens, Forsaken House, and the New York Times bestseller Condemnation. Rich is currently employed as a senior game designer at Wizards of the Coast, Inc., and works every day on new products for the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Arms & Equipment Guide Review, September 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Arms & Equipment Guide (Alternity Sci-Fi Roleplaying, Star Drive Setting) (Paperback)
Its a great accessory. The book includes specialty cloths, armors, weapons, and supplies for everyone. Things like the Hammer 5 11mm charge pistol (a gun with style!) and quadrupale priced "smart bullets" (laser giuded)

Alien cloths, armor, and weapons included too. (although not much) and I really liked the listing of speacilty fabrics, aswell as the "brand name" weapons and armor. Best of all adventure hooks are scattered through out the entire book.

It only has a few computer, cybertech, and alien weapons. It includes a wide array of ground and air vechiles, enviromental suites, and lifesupport domes, as well as a few spacecraft, but no drive space ships. I'm betting TSR has speacial cybertech, spacecraft, body tank, and alien books in the works. This book is worth the price, but its mostly weapons, medical/survival gear, and armor. For computers and robots get DataWare.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not epic, July 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Arms & Equipment Guide (Alternity Sci-Fi Roleplaying, Star Drive Setting) (Paperback)
The Arms & Equipment guide is a very useful book, no doubt, as all its cyberware, extensive clothing lists, and valuable equipment is invariably a must for any alternity player. however, when it comes to the weaponry section...there's much to be left out, for instance where's that arc pistol when you really need it, and just really how hard is it to come across some of these items. without a good head on their shoulders, a gm could easily lead a monty haul with this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but not essential, May 3, 2000

Andrew Limsk (Kuala Lumpur, MY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Arms & Equipment Guide (Alternity Sci-Fi Roleplaying, Star Drive Setting) (Paperback)
Written in the style of a sales brochure, this supplement provides lots of useful gear for Alternity players. The weapons section doesn't feature many new guns though, most already listed in the basic rulebooks (Players Handbook or Gamemasters Guide). Also included are stats for personal gear, clothing, utility equipment, computers, and vehicles. Well illustrated throughout and features some original ideas. A nice, though not essential addition to the rulebooks for busy GMs too lazy to dream up their own high tech gear.
