A source of useful information!,
By
This review is from: Arms & Equipment Guide (AD&D 2nd Ed Rules Supplement, DMGR3) (Paperback)
For those who need a little more detailed look at armor and how it was historically used, this is the book for you. With illustrations, and information for most items, and a larger table then found in the PHB. This book will give anyone that extra edge when describing there character. If your into the historical usage of weapons and armor, and your trying to fit specific types of armor and weapons to a specific date or setting this will assist you as the DM. I will only give this 4 of 5 stars because it lacks the extra knowledge I was seeking for new innovative items, a larger magical item extension, and campaign examples. Howerver, with all the information I would like the book would be a few hundred pages larger, and would sell for a much higher price. For it's worth, it's worth it's weight.

Accurate and very useful,

I thouroughly enjoyed this book. It contains accurate, relevant, and useful data pertaining to any and all equipment, weapons, armor, and other miscelaneous things necessary in order to create an historically-accurate gaming experience. Some of the areas could have used more fleshing-out, and some cultures' implements have not been described as well as they should have been, the book is probably the best that could be done in the space alotted.

Good hidtory for DM's but little practical information,

This review is from: Arms & Equipment Guide (AD&D 2nd Ed Rules Supplement, DMGR3) (Paperback)
The Arms and Equipment Guide has a lot of interesting information about how armor is made and who would have it or use it. The weapons section si similar. However there are very few weapons not already in the Players Handbook. The Guide has little practical information and is, overall, not worth your time unless you have a lot of curious players who want to know about game customs and why this or that bandit has this or that type of armor.

I had been searching for this book for a while, so when I finally acquired it, I was looking forward to making the re-acquaintance with this accessory. On reading the guide more thoroughly I was both impressed and disappointed. Impressed by the comprehensive history, more comprehensive barding coverage, addition of detail, and expansion of the often dubious area of spear/pikes & damage they inflict. However, once the euphoria of looking in these areas and descriptions of weapons and arms, the document disappointed as a whole. It had little that would add practical elements to adventuring, and would probably only stand one or two thorough reads, weapon summary excluded, and that alone does not make for a lasting document. A great idea, but could have been advanced further then it has been in this production.

Not In-depth enough,

This review is from: Arms & Equipment Guide (AD&D 2nd Ed Rules Supplement, DMGR3) (Paperback)
This book does cover many of the arms and armor found in European AD&D campaigns. However, it does not talk about weapons of other cultures. If your looking for pictures and descriptions of Oriental, Arabian, or firearm weapons; this book ain't got it.

I appreciate this book for more for the historical information provided in this book than for the rules; that's why it rates a four. If you are just looking for new rules on weapons, then this isn't the book for you.

Excellent book, buy it,

A great supplement to the AD&D game, but not nearly as complete as Players Option: Combat and Tactics as far as the weapons and armors went. The weapons/armors that were mentioned, however, went more into the usefulness, history, and advantages/disadvantages than Combat and Tactics did. Good drawings, too.

This book really helped me understand what was going on with armors, weapons, and clothing, as I really had NO idea what they looked like from the Players Handbook and Players Option: Combat and Tactics description, as well as help actually knowing what heads on polearms look like. If you plan to do ANY involved role-playing, with what your character's wearing and using, this aid is the absolute.

Interesting, but not as useful as I'd anticipated. Good basic descriptions of different armor and weapons. Would have liked more on the wonderous items and non armor, no weapon items.

This books helps people understand what the armor or the weapon they have looks like. It also helps players expand there minds to what they would look like in battle.
