5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
This is the first scanner I've ever owned, and I found it to be easy to use and easy to understand. When I had a question I emailed their tech support and got a reply that even I could understand within an hour. In addition to our late-model car, I used it to check an older model (1985 Ford Ranger) equipped with OBD1, and the accompanying adaptor worked perfectly. I'm...

2.0 out of 5 stars OK but overpriced for limited functionality
Yes, the 3120 is easy to use to retrieve error codes but BEWARE; it does not display live operational data, it is limited to just what is recorded in the vehicle computer memory. For only that, its price is not justifiable.

My mistake in missing the distinction between the 3120 and 3130 in the on-line product descriptions. My mistake in buying the more expensive 3120 instead of the much more capable and less expensive 3130.

This is a class "A" scanner for the money. It employs all the protocols
including CAN. The only vehicles it won't work on that i am of aware of are
1995 General Motors "S" & "T" series trucks. As an ex-aircraft mechanic I am very satisfied with this product for the price.Equus 3130 Diagnostic Code Scanner with Live, Record and Playback Data Capability for OBDII (Post-1996) Vehicles

I was undecided whether to get a software based scanner that you install on your laptop or this. I chose this becauise it does OBD1 &OBD2 and is rugged, all cables and conectors are provided, very easy to use and does an excellent job. It took me some getting used to but once I did, it is well worth the money. I too wanted to see live data but can't justify the extra cost just to see live data when you can get the data from the obc when the fault occurred. Anyways this tool has helped me fix my truck and it is also helping me with my SUV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect product everyone should have., December 25, 2008

I am kind of a freelance mechanic with better than average knowledge of automobiles. I recommend that anyone who is willing to do their own work on cars own one of these. Save yourself and friends the dealer costs of diagnosing engine problems. This model in particular is extremely easy to use on all vehicles with the OB1 and OB2 systems. The money you save will easily pay for this scanner.

This product worked as stated. The only down side was that in small print the system does NOT work on 94/95 with climate control computers. I happen to buy it for my 95 Buick and it will not communicate. But I did try it on my other car and it works fine.

This is a great product for getting that annoying check engine light to go off and tell you where to start looking for the problems.

I would recommend this to my friends to have in their shop.

1.0 out of 5 stars waste of money, August 20, 2011
This review is from: Equus 3120 Innova Diagnostic Code Scanner with Freeze Frame Data for OBDI and OBDII Vehicles (Misc.)
bought this on a orielly's loan a tool program and I'm glad I did because now I can return it. All you can do with it is read and erase codes that are set, you can do this with a 50 dollar cheapie. It does run monitors but it is no help after that. they charged me $426 for this tool and it is a total waste!! check out the actron 9580 instead

I had a check engine light and the Equus 3120 told me the problem. I bought the part (coil on plug on no. 5 plug) and installed it. Problem solved. Tool also does OBD 1 on older Chrysler, GM, Ford and Toyota.

2.0 out of 5 stars Owners manual sucks, January 11, 2011

If you are a novice and trying to understand the manual, good luck! The "I/M monitor codes are not addressed in the glossary of terms and abbreviations at all, so you have no idea what system "HTR" is in when it keeps flashing indicating that it has not run diagnostic tests. Scanner does all I want it to do but the owners manual leaves a WHOLE LOT to be desired..
