5.0 out of 5 stars Equus 5568 Pro-Timing Light
Solid product, executes all functions I have used flawlessly. I have not used the advance and retard modes yet, due to not having them on the cars that I have used the light on.

Would not recommend for 8.00 or 8.5 mm wires. Inconsistent readings. Pick up clamp does not clamp spark plug wire well.

This is a fantastic tool. I bought it to use on my 71 Superbeetle. Although it doesn't seem to indicate timing set to after top dead center,I have used it to successfully set my timing, check out dwell, volts in the charging system and the battery voltage. Maybe with more time on this timing light I will figure how to read before top dead center timing.
Easy to use, nice storage case too!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Really Good Light Thats Easy To Use, November 2, 2010

I've used this light at least four different times now, and it's a blast to use and so easy. I gave it only four stars, because it does loose sync with the rpm's. The red color also attracts dirt. Setting total time is a breeze. It also monitors voltage level, as well. It has a metal clip to put around the spark plug wire, which is more durable than the plastic ones on some(careful it does get hot). If your in need of a advance timing light with many built in options this is the light for you.

this is a nice timing light. i used this to verify the initial timing and degrees of advance on my motorcycle. it allows me to be absolutely certain that the programmable ignition system i use on the bike is giving the right ignition timing at the mapped rpm.

the backlit lcd readout is very nice. it even displays battery voltage so you could use this to troubleshoot battery/alternator problems if you didn't have a voltmeter available. the dwell function would be really useful for the old school folks who still like adjusting contact breaker points.

of course, for me the most useful feature is the timing advance function. this thing just destroys any old dial type advance timing light. if you set the timing light for 10 degrees, and your ignition timing is set for 10 degrees, and your timing pointer marks are in the right spot, then this thing is dead on. it is extremely consistent, completely the opposite of my crummy sears craftsman dial type advance timing light.

if you're in the market for a timing light with timing advance features, don't waste your money on a cheaper dial type timing light. you'll regret it. save your lunch money for another week and get this one instead because it works right and doesn't cost that much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, high quality timing light, September 7, 2011

This full-featured timing light is constructed to very high quality standards and has a bright flashing strobe. I have used this timing light on 1990's GM cars with DIS II ignition systems to diagnose defective coils, even though the timing is electronically controlled. Watching the strobe, you can easily detect misfires and stumbles. For modern cars that have spark coils mounted over the spark plug wells (i.e. no high voltage ignition wires to attach the inductive probe onto) you can buy ignition adapters that when installed, bring a HV wire up the well where you can attach the timing light (see for example the S and G Tool Aid In-Line Spark Checker Kit for Recessed Plugs). I am very happy with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Value, February 20, 2011

I was going to buy a Multi-meter to check dwell, as I work on a lot of engines with conventional ignition. Those automotive meters are $300 or more. Now I can continue to use my simple meter and have all the tools I need. The timing light seems pretty good quality, maybe not what snap-on is, but pretty darn good for 1/3 the price. The only problem so far was it came with the wrong owner's manual. I called the techline, and they wouldn't send me one. I downloaded one off their website. The cords unplugging from the light scares me a little, I have seen many lights with the cords soldiered and taped to the light. Time will tell on overall quality, but so far, I am very impressed with the value.

I have needed to update my old school timing light for some time now. Was hesitant to take the plunge and find myself disappointed again with an inferior product.
I can tell you I am very satisfied with this timing light. Used it several times so far and it does the job, dwell, rpm, volts and timing (both initial and full advance). The case is also an added plus.
Only missing option.... it doesn't do anything about my gray hair by turning back time!
Amazon came through again for me with the Quality, Price and Fast Shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars solid product, March 6, 2010
This review is from: Equus 5568 Pro-Timing Light with Tool Case (Misc.)
I bought this as an interim solution to replace the awful OTC timing light that broke while I saved up for a snap on timing light. I am no longer going to buy a snap on because this product from Equus is a damn fine tool and has everything I need in a timing light. A solid well made tool that does it all in a very nice case.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want the top of the line, January 10, 2011

Bought this to replace my ancient Sears and Roebuck timing light that my grandfather gave me years ago. I choose 5568 model because it will also time DIS ignitions and I have a few bikes so it needs to be able to time different ignition systems. What can I say.. it's easy to operate, easy to hook up, works perfectly. Very well made and heavy duty. I especially like the detachable and REPLACEABLE cables. Makes life easy when you're trying to fit everything back in the case. If you have any older model engine that uses breaker points this is the timing light for you. Tach, Dwell, Timing, Voltage, and Advance timing. That would have been three separate tools minimum back in the day. Now it's all in one. and for around $100 you can't beat it.
