Simply outstanding,

This review is from: Era 2 (Audio CD)
Era II follows on from the success that Era I had incapsulated. The only reason I didn't rate the CD 5/5 was that the last track 'In Fine' was not a proper way of ending this spectacular CD.This CD is a must for any Era fan, as Eric Levy has masterminded 9 songs of pure delight and bliss. The gregorian harmonies are in sync with the deep strumming of electronica and makes listening to a nice blend. Hymne, Mirror and Omeno Sore are the highlights of the track followed by After Time, the female vocalist excels again.

Manila Bar, Brazil,
By Ray Kendrick (Liverpool, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Era 2 (Audio CD)
I first came accross Era 1 in the Manila Bar, Vitoria, Brazil.Played very loud in a Disco Bar, it seemed a strange choice of music, which quickly became a cult to all those who entered. On returning home, I tracked down the Era 1 cd, and on investigating discovered there was a sequel already out in Era 2. "Omen Sore" A reintroduction of themes set out in Era's original album. A mixture of Gothic Rock, and Classical Harmonies. "Divano" The "Ameno" of the first album. A catchy tune which I can imagine could soon appear as a backing track on a ducumentary. Could become a hit record, if given any "Air Time". "Divore Amante" Chilling and haunting vocals. "Sentence" Mixture of Classical and Rock themes, with clear vocals of Lena Jinnegren. "Don't U" Slow harmonies which would be an instant #1 if attempted by the likes of West Life. Hopefully it never will be though. "Infanati" Slightly weaker than the rest of the tracks, but only just. "Madona" Catchy Orchestral theme with outstanding vocals. If you like Era 1, then you will certainly like Era 2.

This cd is absolutely GREAT for your body and mind. The composer lives in Belgium and I once had the chance to talk to him. He told me the history behind the composition and that's amazing. He told me that it was written after several operations he had to undergo, and the music we hear is a registration of the feelings he had in hospital. He started with some rough lines he had written in 1998 and 2000, and then he created this masterpiece !

when i first heard a sample playing in a bar down town, I new right then, "I have to get that cd!" Im a big fan of new age music and i have to say that era and era 2 has done a great job. this music uses the instruments that we use today like the rock guitar and also uses great synthsisers combined with the use of singing. if people like enigma or enya, then you'll love this cd. a must buy.

This is a brillaint follow up of the First ERA CD. If you enjoyed the first one you will love this one just as much. The music is still filled with mystries and it takes you to beautiful places when you listen to it. It's worth ever cent!

Great follow-up,

I heard the first Era album shortly before the Era 2 was released, and was absolutely enthralled by the fusion of rhythm, midieval-European-sounding vocals, and rock harmonies. Era 2 follows the standard set by Era (I), with a bit more of an orchestral, classical-music influence. The additional prominance of the strings is especially noticeable in the smooth, soulful "Omen Sore" and the simple, harmonious "Don't U". The underlying melody in "Don't U" is similar to that of "Pachelbel's Canon", with a particularly gorgeous main tune laid over it. "Hymne", with its distinct melody/countermelody and use of a harpsichord sound, is reminiscent of a Baroque chorale--with a rock beat. The most stylistically "pop" track is "Misere Mani", but the lyrics are still effectively enigmatic: "If you look inside your soul the world will open to your eyes." Another track worth mention is the haunting "Devore Amante"; when the guitar solo kicked in at the end of the song, I could have sworn I was listening to Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb." And the last song, the ethereal "Ghost Finale", is a nice touch. The songs on this album flow seamlessly from one to the next, taking the listener on a musical journey that is unparalleled (except maybe by the first Era CD).This music is perfect for relaxation at work, in the car, at home with candles lit and the lights off. Era is a successful combination of rock, "midieval" (pseudo-Latin, chant/choir-like) vocals, and beautiful harmonies. If you like Enigma and/or Adiemus, give this album a try.

Soothing harmony,

As expected, this album provides great, soothing music. Excellent to listen to while at work early in the morning, and are just starting to really wake up. It's not as good as the first volume, though. Buy that one first, if you're not familiar with the style.

To all those people fascinated with ERA, there is a German Band called Lesiem, Album title "Mystic Spirit Voices". I got to find out about this group when I bought ERA and I must say that when I heard it, it was an amazing experience. Lesiem is only available in Germany or through the Amazon German site. Buy this album and you won't be disappointed, it is amazing.

Era 1 is better!,

This review is from: Era 2 (Audio CD)
Although I like Era very much, I think that they failed to make the perfect sequel to their 1st cd. The music is less catchy and slightly boring. "Divano" is my favorite song on the cd. I don't want to completely trash the cd, but I think I'll listen to "Era 1" for now. I'll have to listen to the new one again all the way through a couple of times. Most likely, like other music, the cd will grow on me soon enough. So, before you buy the cd, try to listen to it before buying it. You won't be as disappointed as I was. |
