Patrick Doyle does it again. With a mix of dark and light music, this soundtrack has something for everyone. An abolute joy to listen to. I really enjoyed his take at Harry Potter, but this is crazy good. A joy for all those fantasy and soundtrack lovers. Highly recommended.

My new favorite soundtrack!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Eragon - Music from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I've never put a movie soundtrack at the top of my favorites, but this one beat out any other I've ever listened to! Patrick Doyle is my new favorite movie composer (though I've been a fan of his since Harry Potter 4). All of the orchestral tracks (1-14) were amazing. Though the melody was repeated, it was repeated in variations and I never tired of it! I've NEVER liked anything I've ever heard from Avril, but Keep Holding On was fantastic! Whether you're a fan of her or not, you still should at least listen to this song. Jem's Once in Every Lifetime was equally great or maybe even a bit better than Avril's. Jem is a little...hmm, how do I put it...breathy? But it suited the song well. Even if you don't necessary like the style she sings it, the lyrics and the back-up will make up for it! Overall, this CD earns 5 stars!!!!!

One of Patrick Doyle's Best Film Scores, But It's For A Mediocre Film....,
By
This review is from: Eragon - Music from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I've been a great admirer of Patrick Doyle's film scores ever since he composed his auspicious debut, the score for the Kenneth Branagh film adaptation of William Shakespeare's play "Henry V". For "Eragon" he's composed one of his most original, sweeping scores yet, which doesn't imitate at all classic film scores from the likes of John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith or Howard Shore, whom most may remember well for his elegant scores for Peter Jackson's "The Lord Of The Rings" cinematic trilogy. If anything, Patrick Doyle's latest composition owes more to Gustav Mahler's vast symphonic scores, than anything by such great American film composers like Williams and Goldsmith. But I suppose comparisons will be made when people realize that this score was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, the United Kingdom's foremost symphony orchestra, which has recorded numerous film scores, including those for both "Star Wars" trilogies. Still, much to his credit, Doyle has composed an imaginative score which conveys successfully the vast range of emotions shown in the film by Eragon, the dragon Saphira and other major characters; it is truly a pity that this fine score is one of the few distinguished parts of what might have been a good fantasy film. Devout fans of classic film scores will most definitely wish to acquire this CD, even though it includes two songs which I don't think are nearly as memorable as those from Enya and Annie Lennox in Peter Jackson's "The Lord Of The Rings" films.

One of my favorite soundtracks,
By
This review is from: Eragon - Music from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I love movie soundtracks, and this is one at the top of my list. The songs are wonderful, and as other have commented, relaxing and inspiring. The opening track, Eragon, is wonderfully written, and I love to listen to it over and over. Perhaps my favorite song is #10, Passing of the Flame. I'm a musician in a college concert band, and I think it's one of the most beautiful soundtrack songs I've heard. Every time I hear it, I get chills from the gorgeous chords. Every song is amazing. I also like the vocal pieces at the end; they are a great finishing touch. In all, this is a wonderful collection of music. Every time I play it for one of my friends, they are immediately hooked. I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who asks me about it.

Doyle At His Best,
By Andrew Kutz (The Vast Desert Subtropolis of Gilbert, Arizona, USA) - See all my reviews

This is an excellent score, both for fans of Patrick Doyle and first time listeners. It provides a very brassy theme that is a blast to listen to, and pretty sinister diddies that were a nice touch to this sweeping score.
It's classic Doyle, as he presents one of the best scores of the year for one of the worst films. If there is one thing to complain about, it's that it closely mirrors some of Doyles own music. But, then again, can you have too much good stuff? The songs at the end by Avril Lavigne and Jem are a fairly good listen, too. An added bonus, I'd say. A must buy for Patrick Doyle fans.

I love this soundtrack. It's powerful & emotional. Fox spent money on the music, wish they'd done the same with the movie. The end was a disappointment. MUSIC is WONDERFUL though.

After Listening to the soundtrack of Eragon you can't help but get lost in the beautiful and uplifting melodies of the composer's score. Most of the songs rhythms are soothing and inspiring. For instance, during some of the battle sequences and when Eragon and his pet dragon take to the air for the first time. But it's Avril Lavigne's new theme song to the film, "Keep holding on" and Jem's "Onoe in Every Lifetime" that truly sell the CD. The End credit theme song is the real reason why I bought the CD. Unlike Eragon, its predacesor "Dragon Heart" has more of an engaging orchestra score. In regards to the film itself the story behind it was quite weak and the end finale left me wanting more at the end. In closing "Dragon Heart" has a much deeper story, a very powerful message for all to share and a much more powerful dragon. No one does it better than Sean Connery who adds a very wise and honorable voice to his dragon character "Drakco".

Magical score!,
This review is from: Eragon - Music from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is really good, one of my favorites now, although I must say, the movie was pretty bad (especially if you've read the book). The orchestration is brilliant, and I love how Mr. Doyle gives us a great, heroic track at the start of the album to let us know what we're in for. About every track on this CD is good, though "Eragon," "Ra'zac," "If You Were Flying," and "Battle For Varden" stand out above all the rest. I would recommend this album to any fan of the movie Eragon, the book, or just music in general. The main theme to this soundtrack is gripping and will hold your attention for a while! Great buy!

I'm not an Eragon fan, never read the books, never seen the movie. So, I can only compare this CD totally based on what I heard. Collecting movie soundtracks is my hobby, so I've heard "Lord of the Rings" and "The Chronicles of Narnia." I've also seen both of those movies. I would say, Eragon music falls more on the side of the Narnia feel of things, but even friendlier and more interesting. Repetitious, yes, but what an excellent theme to repeat!! And, upon first listen, I've played it 3 times already, back to back! So, to me, this is one theme that I don't mind repeating! The Eragorn theme is excellent, and runs through most of the tracks. I found the softer version on Track 12 "Together" especially touching, though I have no idea what movie detail that's about. Track 15 "Keep Holding on" and Track 16 "Once in Every Lifetime" were awesomely done, and the simple lyrics inspired me tremendously. The rest of the tracks that bear the robust Eragorn theme on and off, in different variations, were all carefully crafted with lots of instrumentation. At first listen to the theme, I felt like I was in a Star Wars movie, grand and generous, and then it also felt like a certain theme from Star Trek the Next Generation movies. (First Contact) Uplifting overall. This CD is something you can play in the deep of the night without feeling scared. (at least that is how I feel!) Lord of the Rings had parts that were scary. Even Narnia had a few creepy moments. Eragorn had pulse-racing dark moments, but all melodic and wonderfully blended back into positive feelings. A must have for your collection.
