4.0 out of 5 stars Far from home. Far from safe. Far from over. April 7, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
The true star of this better than average espionage thriller is Belgium. Shot in Antwerp and Brussels the cities are extraordinarily beautiful, written by Arash Amel and directed by Philipp Stölzl - both of whom are young and new to the business and it shows.

Ben Logan (Aaron Eckhart in a solid performance) is an ex-CIA agent employed by a huge conglomerate Halgate and working for one of their subsidiary companies as a security engineer. He has invited his daughter Amy (Liana Liberato) to move from the US to Belgium to live with him to reconnect after a lengthy separation. Ben's job is to try to get pass security protocols, fool the eye scanners and break into safes. But overnight Ben discovers that his company, Halgate, no longer inhabits his workplace and that all evidence of Ben's existence has been erased. Slowly he discovers that there is a huge conspiracy surrounding his employer and that soon he and his daughter will become subjects of a manhunt. Ben's co-workers are all murdered with the exception of his colleague Derek Kolper (Neil Napier) who apparently has possession of documents that will bring the conspiracy into the open. Ben relies on his US operative colleague Anna Brandt (the beautiful Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko) who is not who she seems. Amy grows from being a dysfunctional disgruntled teenager to a keen `agent' with some help from her boyfriend Nabil (the very bright handsome new rising star Yassine Fadel). Targeted for termination by a company with seemingly unlimited recourses, they only have one choice: get to the bottom of this conspiracy in a hope that it will save their lives.

Though there are holes in this story and many borrowed concepts from other films in this genre, the film provides visual if not intellectual excitement.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the $10 to Me April 28, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
I decided to rent this movie now than wait a few weeks and see it on the big screen. I enjoyed it. It's not a "Hollywood" movie. There isn't a glossy look and storyline. It's realistic and cold and despite another reviewers comment, she (the daughter) didn't whine that much. Or maybe I thought she acted like a teenager getting to know her father while missing her dead mother and living in a foreign country. I liked enough of the trailer to want to see this movie and it took me for a ride. The plot and action was enough to keep me in the picture and interested in how it would end. That is what I look for in a movie. The bonus was watching in my pj's while eating popcorn with real butter.

Is this a great movie? No. Is this a good movie? Yes, it is to me. That's why I gave it four stars. The average is a three, but you know...I may read the reviews but in the end I make up my own mind.

I didn't notice a sound problem on my iPad. I did get it on ITunes though. Sorry Amazon, you do get most of my rentals but you really need to put better ads on your app than tv series and prime shows. As a new Prime member I know how to search for the free stuff. I didn't know you did pre release.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have done without the Daughter August 25, 2013
Format:DVD
The daughter was so annoying. Ridiculously so. She was so upset that her father was an ex special OPS CIA agent, could kill people with his bare hands and basically beat up anyone that followed them. Her father spoke Russian, English, French, etc. etc. This was a problem for her. She lived in Belgium. This was a problem for her. She was spoiled. This was a problem for her. She wasn't given 100% attention. This was a problem for her.

This movie would have been great with more Olga K and less stupid daughter.

Good movie overall with good fight and tech scenes. I didn't think that the sound track was overwhelming like another user said.

4.0 out of 5 stars MR. LOGAN. YOU HAVE NEVER WORKED FOR THIS COMPANY. December 1, 2012
Format:DVD
Ben Logan (Aaron Eckhart) works for a security testing company in Belgium. His teen daughter, Amy (Liana Liberato)attends high school. One day when Ben goes to work he finds out his company is missing and never existed.

Being a former CIA agent, Ben investigates. He ends up on the lam battling the CIA, authorities, and a corporation that all want him and his daughter dead. Amy quickly goes from a snarky teen to Internet sleuth.

The film consists of a lot of double agents. The twists are shown to the audience which takes away from any mystery aspect. It is the "Bourne" type of film with one man against the system. This one has the addition of a daughter.

This is a fairly decent film for those who like the "Bourne" type of film, especially if your thirst was not satisfied with that latest 4th "Bourne" installment.
