5.0 out of 5 stars How do you even rate something like this?
This isn't only for fans of Eraserhead, but fans of film. Alan Splet's sound work on Eraserhead has been incredibly influential, making this a seminal work. It was not only influential on film but on a whole generation of "industrial" musicians, particularly the early British ones. And its compelling work, conjuring up a true 20th century nightmare world...

3.0 out of 5 stars very little music
This album contains very little actual music. The best stuff are the snippets of Fats Waller playing pipe organ. If you want that stuff, go to the source: get "Young Fats at the Organ." It has the complete recordings of all the snippets heard on this CD and you can appreciate them in their true context. They're not creepy, but very beautiful and somber...

It was not only influential on film but on a whole generation of "industrial" musicians, particularly the early British ones. And its compelling work, conjuring up a true 20th century nightmare world. Given that the film "Eraserhead" is not in print on either VHS or DVD right now, this is your only way to experience this soundtrack. And you not only get Peter Iver's wonderful little song but also all that great Fats Waller organ music mixed into the background. There's some cool ambient electronica waiting to be created by sampling this work (and actually parts of it already HAVE been sampled by at least one of electronica's brightest lights), but until someone wakes up and does more with this stuff, this CD is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars hmm, March 23, 2002
This review is from: Eraserhead (1976 Film) (Audio CD)
You know, it's strange how music which has a certain function, instead performs a different one. Just like in circus music, and in lullabies, in the right light they actually sound quite dark and frightening, when they're supposed to give 'happy thoughts'. The organ playing of Fats Waller is no exception. Playing this will remind you of Henry and give a feeling of isolation and alienation. This is the highlight of this already brilliant soundtrack. Haunting stuff.

I like this film a lot, and have seen it many times, but I have to admit that this CD is pretty lacking in comparison. Movie =A ; CD =C+

5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome soundtrack for an awsome movie., December 29, 2001

I really liked this soundtrack. Sure it doesn't have really any talking from the movie (except at the begining of the second track and somewhere further into track 2) but it is still an awsome cd. Its cool to hear the Lady In The Radiator song here. This soundtrack really puts images in your head. People who have never seen the movie may have problems with this cd though. All in all a great soundtrack. Prepare to enter Henry's world. "In heaven everything is fine..."

Any fan of Music Will enjoy this fine line of the Heavenly and the Horrified. A tuned ear will understand this to be true music and not the [music] we have to indulge in now. Any Back Street boys fan will be on the edge of insanity listening to this masterwork of the Legendary Director, David Lynch.
Most People can't handle the film, Eraserhead, and they close their eyes to the things they see....they're listening to this.
Which happens to be the most unsettling part of the whole trip through Eraserhead. The sounds are too real to be real. They're so odd and rude to the mind of the listener that you may think your insane, and really realizing it for the first time. It's been known to be playing in many suicides. Anything with that much power must be seen, or heard...To be believed. Too incredible for words, It's one of those things you love or hate so much, that your brain makes words that aren't real for the passionate feelings of it.

The words we'll never say.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, But not worth 13$ dollars, January 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Eraserhead (1976 Film) (Audio CD)
If you are familiar with the film Eraserhead, directed by David Lynch then this soundtrack may be something you want to buy. Although if you ask me it's really not worth the price they put it at. The soundtrack contains two very long tracks that play the sounds of the actual movie itself, and instead of watching the film you are actually listening to all of the sounds and speech of the movie. (As if you watch the movie with your eyes closed) Although some parts of the movie have been cut out, you still get most of the film sounds on this CD. Eraserhead does not have a lot of speech in the movie, it may seem boring to listen to at times, especially the radiator hising and roaring in the background. One plus to the movie is the original version of "In Heaven Everything is Fine" Sung by the lady in the radiator herself, although this song is in the middle of track two and can be a pain to get too, but it's definately worth it, for this minute and a half long song. Unless your a pure Eraserhead fan, I don't think many people would like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars F*** Heineken, ERASERHEAD, May 1, 2005
This review is from: Eraserhead (1976 Film) (Audio CD)
umm...David Lynch's movie...beautiful/horrifying, introspective/alienating, creepy as f*ck, thought provoking, wicked. I've never been this awestruck and emotionally evoked in my life. The movie is excellent... but the soundtrack is otherworldly. Natural noise emantes and shocks the soul through this difficult yet wonderous film (film, not movie!) and culminates with the celestial song, "In Heaven." I don't own the soundtrack, but the one "real" song "In Heaven" is worth every penny you're likely to spend. The Pixies have covered it several times--both "Black" Francis and Kim Deal (the last time i saw them, she opened with it solo and it was retaaaaded)--and if there's a veryifying source of good taste, it's gotta be the Pixies! Nevertheless, David Lynch(not alone) crafted the most beautiful and equally creepy song of all time, "In Heaven." "In Heaven, everything is fine, 2X, you've got your good things... and i've/you've got mine..." O my GOD!!!! If this review doesn't convince you, Lynch himself in the Eraserhead DVD, claims that making the soundtrack to this film was the best time in his life! Beautiful...Only a mad genius has a haircut like that...

Seriously, this is about as close to a perfect film-soundtrack as we may ever hear. Great for putting on 'repeat' and zoning-out to....

The world of David Lynch and film is the same "go" for music. This is the music that created music. If sound had not been invented, there would not be stupid bands like "NSYNC" or stupid pop bands like that. These nightmarish drones and sounds create abient features and horrifying imagery in your head. Dreams create some of the most incredible work. I know that personally from making my own independent films. Eraserhead's soundtrack is truly a marvel and a classic. Something stretching far beyond anything else the music world has to offer. Something that grip you and throw you're hatred and the anger that grows inside of you, aginst the hardest brick wall and leave it bleeding insanely... hold on. Dreams may just be your future...
