How do you even rate something like this?,

This review is from: Eraserhead (1976 Film) (Audio CD)
This isn't only for fans of Eraserhead, but fans of film. Alan Splet's sound work on Eraserhead has been incredibly influential, making this a seminal work. It was not only influential on film but on a whole generation of "industrial" musicians, particularly the early British ones. And its compelling work, conjuring up a true 20th century nightmare world. Given that the film "Eraserhead" is not in print on either VHS or DVD right now, this is your only way to experience this soundtrack. And you not only get Peter Iver's wonderful little song but also all that great Fats Waller organ music mixed into the background. There's some cool ambient electronica waiting to be created by sampling this work (and actually parts of it already HAVE been sampled by at least one of electronica's brightest lights), but until someone wakes up and does more with this stuff, this CD is it.

You know, it's strange how music which has a certain function, instead performs a different one. Just like in circus music, and in lullabies, in the right light they actually sound quite dark and frightening, when they're supposed to give 'happy thoughts'. The organ playing of Fats Waller is no exception. Playing this will remind you of Henry and give a feeling of isolation and alienation. This is the highlight of this already brilliant soundtrack. Haunting stuff.

very little music,

This album contains very little actual music. The best stuff are the snippets of Fats Waller playing pipe organ. If you want that stuff, go to the source: get "Young Fats at the Organ." It has the complete recordings of all the snippets heard on this CD and you can appreciate them in their true context. They're not creepy, but very beautiful and somber recordings, very much worth listening to. I like this film a lot, and have seen it many times, but I have to admit that this CD is pretty lacking in comparison. Movie =A ; CD =C+
