Biography

English synth-pop duo Erasure have had 17 Top 10 hits in the UK, including "Sometimes", "A Little Respect" and "Love to Hate You". Their chart success and the flamboyance of openly gay frontman Andy Bell made Erasure an iconic group in gay culture.

Erasure were formed in 1985 by Vince Clarke, formerly of new wave groups Depeche Mode and Yazoo (Yaz in the US). Clarke was a founding member of… Read more in Amazon's Erasure Store

Editorial Reviews

Product Description

2009 release containing six rare remixes by the Synth Pop duo, originally released only on vinyl. In 1990, Erasure released three promotional singles on twelve inch vinyl. The records were sent to DJs to be played in clubs and were never made commercially available. The three releases have consequently become highly sought after items for Erasure collectors. Mute Records finally releases remastered versions of all six club mixes featured across the three original vinyl singles compiled onto this special CD EP. Mute.

3.0 out of 5 stars When Am I Going To Learn?, October 6, 2009
By Justin Waters "Synth Pop Lover" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Okay, I like Erasure. Still a fan, every time I see Erasure coming out with something new, my ears still perk up, I think Vince Clarke is amazing, love Andy's singing, yadda yadda. But when am I going to learn that for every "Stop", "A Little Respect" and "Blue Savannah" remix, there are three times as many Erasure mixes that are just boring. There are two types of people - those who go to the nightclubs and aren't really concerned about what an artist does with a song; they just want a non-stop mix so they can dance into the night. And then there are those like me who want an artist to do SOMETHING cool with a remix! Don't give me nine minutes of a song which sounds nothing like the original version, and only the occasional sample of one line from the song repeated over and over. Stay within the realm of the original song, but break it down! Enhance it! Make me go "Yeah, now that's cool!" Remind me that there is someone in the studio actually doing something rather than just letting a drum loop play for six minutes.

Again, maybe this is intended for people who frequent clubs (and on a side note - were these songs REALLY played in clubs??). The only songs that made me feel like this wasn't a complete waste of my money were the "Ship Of Fools" mix (funky beat supporting what is really a melodramatic song), and "Weight Of The World" mix; both from (arguably) Erasure's best album "The Innocents" and both heavy on the beats and neither venturing too far from the original melody of the songs. The "Senseless" mix was fine, but it was more refreshing to me in that it reminded me that I hadn't listened to "Wonderland" in a long while. Is that album really over 20 years old?? Sheesh.

Anyway, overall I wouldn't say this is a "must have" EP. To me, it ranks right up there with the "Abba-Esque" remixes EP (including identical cover art), which I have, yet never listen to for specific reasons which I won't get into right now (it sucks). I'd recommend sampling it wherever you can before buying it; this is mostly for die-hard Erasure fans who must own anything Erasure. For me, this will be background music which I may break out occasionally. I still like Erasure and will always check out new material; it's just that their remixes are "Sometimes" hit or mostly misses.

This collection was OK,, I liked it however I imagined it would be a little more uplifting like the Freedom Remixes,,,If you love Erasure it won't be a total disappointment,,,
