4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for whom the intended audience is.
I bought this for my son's 6th birthday. Currently he can build complex lego models by only seeing an item, like a space ship. I thought the next logical step would be an erector set. When I was a kid the erector sets were metal and razor sharp. This set contains pretty good directions for the kids to follow. For younger ones I suggest this be a adult/child project. While...

1.0 out of 5 stars Only 2 Gears!
Ok, I grew up on Tinkertoys, and loved making gears, pulleys, differentials, etc. I was excited to add this set to our 4yo's other erector set that had a motor, and was sucked in by the three gears on the pictures. Unfortunately, this set has only two gears the same size. In addition, the gears don't even line up on the standard bar spacing. We would not recommend...

While the kids can probably put together fairly well, some of the directions did not work out at all and some creativity was required to get them to work right.

Pros:
>> Plastic pieces with simple to use included tools teach kids how to use fasteners and components to build things
>> Objects are large enough to handle for smaller hands.

Cons:
<< Several of the directions indicate to use a red or yellow bolt when there is absolutely no way for that bolt to reach the nut on the other side. Requires modifying the build to achieve success. (Crane for example).

Overall a fine product for future engineers or mechanically inclined children.

Santa brought this toy for our 4 year old and he has really enjoyed it. The pieces are sturdy and easy for little hands to use as intended. He builds all sorts of creations and has just as much fun taking them apart and sorting the pieces into compartments. I do not love the locking handle on the container's lid as it is difficult to latch, even for grown-ups. I would recommend this toy for anyone who has a child interested in building and tools.

We would not recommend this kit, but have had better luck with a different Erector set.

We gave this to our sitters 6 year old boy. He loves it. My 3 year old played with it also but it is a bit tough for her to build this without help. Perfect for a 6 year old boy or older. Did have problems with screws staying tight.

My son enjoyed putting this together with his dad, but Dad actually had to do more of the work. Perhaps with more practice my 5 year old will be able to put together more on his own. Over all, this is a good toy and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a creative gift.

The product was missing multiple key pieces and therefore completely unusable; the missing pieces listed below are all L or H connector pieces so you can't build any of the listed models.

I sent the vendor two messages via Amazon and no answers whatsoever! Very unprofessional, not even there's nothing we can do etc.

Here is a list of pieces that were missing:
- A531 x2 Yellow
- A531 x1 Orange
- A532 x1 Red
- A531 x1 Red
- A561 x1 Gray
- A531 x2 Gray
- B822 x2 White

I wouldn't buy from this vendor unless you want to run the risk of getting defective products.

At first look the set seems impressive. The problem however is the nut-bolts won't hold on tight. If kids start playing with the toy they just constructed, it falls apart. It is very frustrating. If you overtight the bolts using the screwdriver, it damages the threads.

Overall OK, but not at all as expected.

In my memories as a child I truly enjoyed building things with an old erector set at my grandparents house. I bought this for my 4 year old, whom I realize is a little young, but he loves to build and I was happy to help him. I was sure he and I would spend many hours enjoying this toy. However, I have spent a few hours now trying to follow the instructions to create a few different machines. Following the directions is not the hard part. The hard part is getting all of the pieces to stay together until you finish assembling the piece. Tonight for example I was trying to make the backhoe and after nearly 45 minutes of assembly time things started falling apart. It is as if no one ever actually assembled these machines they just designed them on paper. I can't imagine a 5 year old who would have the patience for this toy. I have assembled many things from small toys to large pieces of furniture. This toy is horribly frustrating and in the end there is nothing to show for the labor because the bolts do not stay tightened or the last few pieces don't fit together properly. Don't waste your time. I ignored the reviews and I regret it.

We recently reviewed this Meccano
This toy is from the "Build & Play" series of Meccano. Toys in this series have flexible plastic parts to build funny and colorful vehicles!
Kids can play with them, transform them, and create their own unique models. This pack includes two excavators, two buggies, one robot and one motorcycle.
This toy comes recommended for ages above 4 years. But I guess it is suited for 5 years plus.
A word of caution. This toy needs a set up time of a little over an hour with some supervision

I bought this for my 5 yr old for christmas. I think its a great toy. This is the first time he has used a product like this. The directions are pictures only and somewhat easy to follow but you have to rely on pictures to figure out what pieces to use. We screwed up a couple of time and went back to fix. My 5 yr old needed some assistance (he couldnt build it himself) but it was fun overall. When I am not available he loves to take the pieces and make things from his imagination. They don't resemble anything in the book but he comes up with some good stuff. I think he loves it because there are pieces that look like screws and a screwdrivers so he feels like he is building something. Great toy. Keeps him entertained for hours.
