Purchased this for my ten year old for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. He assembled the model shown on the box cover and told me that he's keeping it forever. The chassis/frame comes complete the only assembly is the body and he assembled it himself, but it did require some assistance from me when he needed an extra set of hands to hold it while he tightened some bolts. I did show him how to use the included specialized wrench to hold nuts in place while tightening bolts which was a huge help to him. The final step of attaching the body to the frame was somewhat difficult in that the spacers kept falling off the bolts before he could get them tightened. Clear contact glue which I just happened to have on hand solved this problem as well as the issue of the transparent headlight "wires" constantly coming loose. He started assembling it the day after Christmas around noon and was racing it fully assembled by 7:30 after taking several breaks. I assumed it would take him a day or two or perhaps even three, but he was dedicated to finishing it and stayed focused the entire time without any prodding from me. I was extremely proud of him. The lights are bright and gorgeous on this car and the speaker really is very good quality as the sound is shockingly good. He plans to fashion a bracket from his remaining pieces to better secure his ipod when its on board. The car itself zips around very fast which he really enjoys the only complaint I have is that there is apparently only one frequency channel controlling these cars, as one of my other boys got the orange RC car for Christmas, and they both share the same frequency preventing them from racing or even operating nearby each other without interference. Looking for an inexpensive work around this, but afraid there may not be one. As far as durability its far to soon to tell. The chassis/ frame is molded plastic, but the body is mostly metal with a few flexible pieces. That should enable the car itself to last quite a long time, the electronics however will most likely fail long before the car deconstructs.

Purchased for my 23 year old baby :) He loved assembling it. (Assembly is not for wimps.) And drove me crazy like he used to when he was little with it!

I bought this for my son for after school testing "CA testing, where schools stop being schools and do nothing but prepare the kids for the state tests "lame I say"".. Any ways, after the week and a half of testing, we opened it, he picked the car he wanted to build and we went for it. We decided 2 pages a night (between school work and other activities this was a good plan of attack).
Some groupings of parts were a bit tough for him, so I took care of those, but he is an avid lego builder, so following instructions and getting the right pieces was no issue for him (learning how to use a "mini wrench" and allen wrench was new to him and that took a bit of getting used to, but these a skills our children need to learn). But we completed it and he loves it, we even put moms nano and he went cruising around the back yard. Quick, responsive (but I did have to tie-strap the fiber tubes for the headlights up away from the wheels so they could have full movement. Oh and the pool, well the second trip outside, where he was piloting solo ended up with me walking out and seeing the car on the first step of the pool, completely submerged :). I picked it up, pulled the batteries , blew it out and a week later we were in business. Now I tried to install the batteries a couple of times during the week, but I think there was still moisture on the main board as it would make weird noises and not go anywhere (batteries back out again), and like I said a week later the thing is as good as new. Now we have not taken it apart to build one of the other 2 cars, but let's say for a 7 year old, he loves it. A) you build something B) you have a pretty cool remote control car afterwards! We give it a thumbs up!
