I bought this particular set for my nine-year-old's birthday. He loves to build things and I figured that this would be the perfect toy for him.
Several things have changed since the Erector Sets of my generation (40 yrs old). The plastic parts included in the kits are of good quality and add an extra dimension to the toy's flexibility. I also liked the button head screws that require an allen (hex) wrench to tighten instead of the old slotted screwdriver that was forever slipping off the head of the old screws and stabbing you in the hand! The electric motor and power-pack are nice too, albeit a little weak to move the heavier assemblies.
I guess the only complaint I have is that, while I really liked the (socket) button head screws for assembly; I was less than impressed with the quality of the hardware provided. The hex cut-outs in the screw heads must be at the top of their tolerance and the wrenches at the bottom because they slip/spin pretty easily before parts can be tightened down securely. I've replaced the wrenches with some higher quality metric ones I already owned and, they're better but, still not perfect.
Finally, The instructions do a pretty good job of showing how things go together as they're CAD (computer) generated. Several models are explained and several more are pictured, only. It'd be nice to have instructions for some of the extra, pictured models available, as well- possibly online. LEGO does this with their Bionicle series and it's a very handy reference.
A good toy but could still use a little fine tuning.

Few toys have the kind of product life that the Erector set has enjoyed. I'd hesitate to say how long ago that I first played with one, but I do know that I spent hours on the living room floor making cranes, robots, and other contraptions that hadn't yet been imagined. So when I tired of coming up with woodworking and "found object" projects for my ten-year-old daughter, I turned to to the construction set I remembered. She and I have had hours of fun exercising our spatial skills, creativity, manual reading skills, and patience with this set. The instructions are well-illustrated, the packaged models you can build are fun, and the results are just as I remembered them. The only regret you'll feel is when you have to take your last project apart to build the next one.

bought 2 of the erector 30 model construction sets for grandsons ages 11. There are alot of small parts , the dowm side ,but this is an education toy and makes them use their thinking to build. would recommend it compared to the toys that are out there this year.

It was an ecxellent item and at very affordable price, I will recomend this web site to who ever want to buy used products, I will not recomend Ebay.
