A Classic Toy Lives On
Kids can build up to 15 different models using the illustrated instructions, or they branch out with their own creations. From planes to cranes to helicopters, there is so much that can be built with the 643 nuts, bolts, wheels, screws, and metal pieces that come with this set. A six-volt battery-powered motor makes the models come alive.
The sheer number of parts may seem overwhelming, but the compartmentalized case will help kids stay organized. Teenagers should have no problem building on their own, but younger kids might need some supervision and help, especially since the directions include no explanatory text -- just illustrations.
What's in the Box
Erector set with 643 parts, six-volt battery-operated motor (batteries not included), illustrated directions, and storage case.

A Kid's Review
This toy is so cool. The day I got it I opened it up to find tons of pieces and instructions. I spent a lot of time just building the models that were in my head. This is sooo cool. If you buy this, you are NOT wasting you'r money.

My son loves to build things. He has a huge Lego collection but I thought it was time to take it up a notch to a more intricate construction set. After researching a number of construction sets, I decided on the good 'ol Erector set. I had one as a boy and my dad had one when he was little. I'm glad I went with the Special Edition because it comes with detailed instructions to build about 15 or 17 different structures. Many other Erector set kits only have one design, such as a race car or train. I'm not saying they wouldn't add educational value but once it's built, it's built. The whole point is to find a toy which can be used over and over again. The Special Edition does just that. My 9-year old son loves it. In fact, my 7-year old daughter plays with it too and I'm happy about that. I think the eye-hand coordination, thought process to intrepret instructions, and the spatial thinking needed to understand how the parts go together benefits all who play with it. I'd like to see additional instructions offered so the fun can continue. Not sure what will happen after the last of the 17 kits is put together. Highly recommended.
