This kit was for a 10-year-old who is proficient in building things, including Steel-tek erector sets. He found the instructions to be incorrect, and indeed, some of the things are shown on the wrong sides, almost as though the photos were reversed. Also, I was disappointed to see that the motors/wheels/receiver were all in one molded unit. I had somehow expected to be able to use the set in ways other than just building cars. The other problem we had was that the drive motor only works intermittently now, which happened less than 20 minutes after opening the set. We still have to call the company about this.

This is the first Erector brand set I've had experience with. I find the parts to be a bit flimsy in comparison to the Steel-Tek, and very flimsy in comparison to the Marklin kits I had as a kid. Last year these kits were available in the $60 range, before Christmas they were in the $80 range. As I write this review, the price has gone up to $150+. I think it's closer to a $60 kit....

On the first RC, the motor was dead out of the box. Amazon was very good about sending a quick replacement. After my son ran it completed it and ran it around for about 30 minutes, the motor gears stripped out of the drive wheels. I have tried contacting the manufacturer and I have received NO RESPONSE AT ALL, after repeated attempts of contacting them on their online help "helpless" website.

I purchased this as a gift for my 11 year old son. Very fun to put together but beyond that very disappointing. In the set I originally ordered, the motor did not work. I e-mailed the company (Meccano) twice to get a replacement part (can't call them because they're in France). I never heard back from the company. At that point I contacted Amazon. They immediately sent a whole new kit and I returned the original kit. (Great job Amazon). Now I have the new kit, the truck is made and I'm having trouble with the rechargeable battery. It takes 6 hours to charge and then my son can play with the truck for about 5 minutes before the battery goes dead.
Additionally, I paid $[...] before Christmas for this toy and now its down to $[...].

My child is crazy for R/C cars and Erector sets. The perfect combination here. He builds different bodies for the chassis and some of them are pretty wacky. Great fun.

I bought this for my 10yr old Godson for Christmas. His mother told me that for the next two days he didn't come out of his room until he had the jeep model built and running. I wasvery pleased with the educational value of the bolt by bolt construction of the car and we were both happy with the durability of it once it was constructed and put through its paces in the yard. I would not recommend this toy for someone 8 or under.

The quality of Erector set components is acceptable. The quality of the RC car needs major improvement. The steering mechanism is extremely flimsy. The remote control only lets the wheels turn fully left or fully right with no in between. The steering always goes out of alignment so that it is impossible to drive in a straight line. The electric motor has no speed control. The motor can only go full speed forward or reverse. The battery capacity of 600mAh only lasts for a few minutes when fully charged. Charging from empty takes 14 hours as the charger is an old technology NiCd charger. Our kids deserve better than this, and the technology exists!

I read the reviews before I bought this set and was hoping that I would be one of the 5 star reviews...um, nope. I spent 15 hours (literally) putting this together. I am a 35 year old woman whose husband knows she loves this sort of stuff, so I am sure that a 10 year old would have it done in an hour. Assembling it was the part I really enjoyed which is why I wanted this particular set. But, like other reviewers I got about 15 minutes worth of use out of it. I recharged the battery and got about 3 mins that time. I ordered another set last week and got it today hoping that I would have better luck with the motor/battery/chassis and wouldn't have to scrap it all. A full charge gave me 20 minutes of operating time with this one. Two sets...two defective sets. Don't buy it. I did...twice. So disappointing.

I bought this for my son for Christmas, and after three days the motor quit working. It just makes a clicking noise but will not run. Not very happy about the quality of the motor. The other pieces are good quality, I was just not impressed with the motor quality of the toy.

The screws keep coming loose and it is definetly for kids that have the patients to rebuild it as screws continually vibrate loose. It drives well and is fun when completed

Perfect gift for my 6-year-old who is totally into cars and building stuff. Came on time and in perfect condition.
