I never planned on getting a baby carrier, but then my son came and to get anything done around the house it was a necessity. A friend gave me a carrier that her daughter never liked to be in and it worked well for a while but then my son got too heavy and my back and shoulders were hurting. So I went searching for a carrier that would be comfortable and would hold a baby over 20 lbs. I came across the Ergo baby carrier and love it.

I have the black and camel colored one. It is very comfortable, no back or shoulder pain and it can hold a child up to 40 lbs. They also sell an insert so that you can use it for a newborn which I plan to buy for my next child. It comes with a dvd that shows you how to use it and put your child in it all by yourself, which is great. You can carry your child in the front, back or on your hip, although I haven't tried the hip. You can even nurse with it, which I was also looking for in a carrier. It has an adjustable hood that I have used many times when my son has fallen asleep to support his head. The carrier is adjustable so that men can use it also and they also sell an extension for the waist if you are a larger size person. The only downsides I can see is it is pricey and the infant insert and the waist extension are sold seperately (you do get what you pay for though), but so are many other carriers. Your child can only face you, whether on the back, front or hip. No facing out. Overall it is a great carrier, well worth the price.

I bought this product about 2 months ago and I have no regrets about it. I take it with me no matter where baby and I go. I think I used just about every carrier on the market, and this is definitely the best one I have used! most carriers put the baby's weight on your shoulders, but this one is on your hips. My baby is 7 months now, and he is super comfy in it. The best thing is that my husband can use it easily too. It is a little pricey, but trust me, it's worth every penny!
The only fault it may have is that it's hard to fold or put away (I just hang it by one of it's straps).

I have always been a huge fan of wraps but I needed something I could throw on quickly. I got the ergo and initially I hated it. I wanted to send it back. The plastic clips rubbed under my arms, I had to get the infant insert, and not being able to fold it up neatly drove me nuts, but I stuck with it and I am sooo so so happy I did. After a while Once it was broken in it was the most comfortable carrier I had ever used. I love that you can get the sucking pads and all the other very useful accessories for it and my son and every kid I have ever used it with LOVES it. I even used it with my friends 3 yr old. She insisted on walking, so brought the ergo along anyway just in case. I ended up wearing her (38lbs) for 4 hours straight on my back while hiking and not even so much as an ounce of soreness. All of the weight is distributed onto your hips and not your shoulders. Not only that I have had mine for 3 years! I use it constantly being a nanny, and it just gets comfier with time and hasn't worn or snagged or started falling apart in any way. Really amazing.

This carrier is fantastic. While I and my baby loved the Baby Bjorn for a while, once the baby got to be 15 lbs. it killed my back when using it for more than 15 minutes. I can have our 22 lb. baby now with the Ergo and feel comfortable carrying all afternoon walking around New York City! My only wish was that the baby could sit facing out and not always in. I highly, highly recommend the Ergo for when the baby gets to be more than 10 lbs.
