3.0 out of 5 stars The chair you think you should have., August 4, 2007

This review is from: Ergo Lounger RS Therapeutic Face Down Lounger, Aluminum (Health and Beauty)
Well first off...the chair arrives in a nice box....easy open...you need to assemble 2 screws and bolts together with a spacer....very simple..although i did it wrong the first time.....but once you READ the instructions...its simple. This attaches the back part of the chair to the rest of the unit. I guess it comes this way since once assembled, when you fold it over to carry it, it would be a bit too long to fit in the supplied box it came in. They could have made life simpler and sent it in a slightly bigger box and fully assembled..whatever.

Next....I am 5'10 and a half (dont forget that half now) and the chair is just a little too small in length for me to lay comfortably on the beach in any position on my back without my feet hanging off the metal bar at the end.... somewhat annoying and sometimes slightly painfull...but with some adjusting, you can get your feet on it with your legs a little bent.

Next.....the most comfortable position for me on this chair is laying face down on the "lounger" with my face in the cut out hole on the pillow pad that is velcroed on.....i need to take out the middle/stomach/back velcro pillow and put it under my ankles so me feet dont hang on the metal bar and cause pain...also it is uncomfortable when you lay on you belly with this middle pillow there...much better when your stomach is on the material using a towel of course since there is velcro there and it would hurt when it rubs against your bare skin. I think it is even ergonomically better or at least it feels that way for me.

Moving on...The chair can be used in the flat position which is great since this is rare when it comes to beach chairs...and a main reason why i bought it. The back part can be raised in the traditional manner like a regular lounge chair for your choice of angle.

Finnaly...it is really lightweight...really. Its maybe 12 pounds or so....and it folds up pretty easily and all the velcro pieces stick to the chair and havent fallen off while ive carried it to and from the beach a few times so far...seems as if the velcro is strong. The only thing is that the back part sticks out further than the rest of the chair when its folded...and is not folded in the traditional manner....what i mean is, a regular lounge/folding chair when folded, makes a shape like a square or a rectangle with all the pieces of the chair nicely tucked in and secure....this chair doesnt do that....it folds ok..but one piece sticks out further than the rest..a little wierd..but it does have some straps that secure the pieces together so it doesnt come apart when carrying it.

To sum up....a good chair if you like lying flat on your back and if you want to tan your back there is a a place for your face parts like your nose..so it dosent get crushed...it goes in the cut out hole in the chair.

I would suggest if you are taller than 5'10 and a half ..use one of the velcro pillows under your ankles so the metal bar dosent cut off your circulation and cause you to walk with a limp. Overall...a good buy for the money. Im happy with my purchase :)

2.0 out of 5 stars RED fabric FAILING after only 4 months! Made in China..., April 2, 2008
This review is from: Ergo Lounger RS Therapeutic Face Down Lounger, Aluminum (Health and Beauty)
First off, I have the ErgoLounger RS in the color *RED*. Apparently this color has been discontinued, as I don't see it for sale on the mfr's website. (Yet their video shows one in a cool ORANGE color.) Hopefully my beef with the fabric tearing doesn't apply to the blue ones. I bought mine from an online clearance place, and have no idea how long it was stored away in its factory box, but it appeared brand new, "some assembly required", and not exposed to the elements.

Based only on the DESIGN and COMFORT, I would give this product 5-stars. LOVE the comfort, fit, function, and light weight of the ErgoLounger RS. Face-down reading and writing while sunning, plus relief from neck and lumbar strain--bloomin' BRILLIANT!

However, given the high-end marketing of this beach chair, I find it UNacceptable that the fabric portion is tearing in several places, after less than 90 hours of use! Note that it's not the stitching that's breaking, but the fabric itself, and in several locations, typically right next to REINFORCING STRIPS... oh, the irony!

And this is with a chair that leads a pampered life:

> My lounger is stored INdoors, out of direct sunlight.

> It is used only 3-5 hours per week, covered with a towel the whole time. So it is not a matter of UV exposure, though a beach chaise SHOULD be UV-resistant, eh?

> I do not wear lotions, potions, or sunscreens, so it's not a matter of chemical attack. My perspiration has never destroyed other fabric chairs.

> RS model is rated for 300 lbs., I weigh only 168... I don't bounce around, do horizontal dance moves, have sex on, or otherwise stress this product. Very light duty, especially compared to, say, a resort or rental environment.

ALSO... a design flaw with the FRAME, presumably common to all colors, i.e.: the adjustable support arm, which props up the backrest at various angles... if the upper ends of those tubes (near the pivot point) are not shielded with duct tape, etc., those narrow edges will eventually poke through the fabric, while the backrest is positioned at any angle above horizontal. Disappointing oversight on a chair in this price range.

Given the inferior durability of the (RED) fabric, and hassle of repairing it, I'm glad I paid only $74 total for this unit. In short, it's a product whose excellent design is seriously compromised by ChiCom fabrication.

Perhaps this was a defect exclusive to the *RED* fabric, and that is why it's no longer available. OTOH, their website makes NO mention of WARRANTY on ANY of their products! Consumers deserve better from such a high-end chaise.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not "aluminum", February 28, 2007
This review is from: Ergo Lounger RS Therapeutic Face Down Lounger, Aluminum (Health and Beauty)
I ordered the Ergo Lounger. When I arrived, I was shocked to find that I could barely lift the box that it came in. I wanted to move it to another room to unpack. This was supposed to be lightweight "aluminum" but the box clearly said "steel." I did NOT want one that would rust because I intended to carry it to the beach to use it. I actually called the Manufacturer (they provided a toll free number) several times. Never did they answer the phone, nor did they ever return any of my calls. So I could not find out if they thought it was aluminum or not. The lounger itself seemed pretty nice, just too heavy and probably would rust soon.

this is a great product but it is way too short in length and too low to the ground. we exchanged it for the OH version. for a little bit more money, it's so much better.

The World I Imagine: A Creative Manual for Ending Poverty and Building Peace; Lion's Pride

With my chronic problems from scoliosis and car accidents in my younger days, Ergo Lounger is perfect for taking stress off my aching back. Even better, when I have trouble getting to sleep because of the weather, which makes various types of pain even worse, this lounge is better than any ergonomically designed bed.

The one problem is trying to find the right position for my arms. Sometimes I simply stretch them down along my sides and tuck them neatly next to my body, which works until they slip over the sides and fall to the floor, which tends to pull at my back muscles and eventually cause cramps. I sometimes stretch my arms directly out to the side, so they bend in a square and my hands flatten on the floor, but that takes a lot of concentration and doesn't last long. The arm problem is the reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5, but when I can keep my arms in place, this is a boon for my back!

I really like this lounger. I had lower back surgery 8 years ago and it went well in terms of function but I was left with permanent nerve damage and chronic pain. This is the most comfortable lounger I've experienced pre or post surgery. Finally I can lay on my stomach without smothering or pain. Laying on my back I do have to add an extra rolled up towel under my knees as the cushions provided aren't sufficient. For a sitting or semi-reclining position I like arm rests. These last two are the reasons I give it 4 instead of 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars great chair for reading at the beach, August 28, 2007
By
This review is from: Ergo Lounger RS Therapeutic Face Down Lounger, Aluminum (Health and Beauty)
Love this chair. Have problems sitting long periods and by adjusting the various pillows to suit me (not necessarily to the places they intend you to put them), I can sit in my chair all day and have no problem. I also can't stand to lay on my stomach normally because I cannot read. With this chair I can and do!!! My only complaint is that it needs a pillow to go across the face opening when you are sitting face up. I bought a pillow with an elastic band that I slide over the opening and it works great. I then use the u-shaped pillow to sit on so my tailbone is not hitting the chair all day. One final thing, the chair makes some interesting noises when you sit down quickly--has raised a few eyebrows of people thinking I am making rude noises. More amusing than annoying.

This is an overpriced, under designed lounger. The concept is cool, the product is not. The idea of being able to read while face down is completely useless if you wear glasses. Very uncomfortable. I am glad I bought mine from Amazon as opposed to the $200 plus other retailers wanted last summer.

This review is from: Ergo Lounger RS Therapeutic Face Down Lounger, Aluminum (Health and Beauty)
The lounger is too close to the ground and it is hard to get into and out of because of that. Also and even worse, the hole for your face is too small and anyone who wears glass to read is unable to use it. This is critical because this hole is used as a selling point.
