Product Description

In some situations people simply need more hand positions. Employing the much proven ergonomic grip body of the GC2, the GC3 introduces a hollow formed glass fiber reinforced ergonomically shaped bar end. Featuring rubberized inserts for positive grip, like all of Ergon’s bar ends it can be independently positioned relative to the grip and acts as the clamp preventing accidental rotation. The grip itself is available in two sizes. Large and Small.

I commute to work by bike year round, so anything I buy for my bike has to be good quality and functional. Something I've learnt over the last couple of years commuting, that buying cheap can be a false economy, but then I don't have to buy "Rolls Royce" products just for the heck of it either. It was with the price in mind that it took me a while before I finally pulled the trigger on these grips, but when I finally did, what an improvement.
First fitting these grips to the handlebars was a snap, you just need a 5mm hex wrench, (3/16" will do at a pinch). Most similar products require friction to stay in place, so getting them on can quite literally be a pain, then when they are on they don't stay in place. These grips on the other hand, slip easily onto a (standard) handlebar, you position on the bar as required, then rotate the bar-end grip to its required position, (you might want to make minor adjustments for the first couple of days so keep the wrench handy), tighten the hex nut and Bob, as they say, is your fathers brother. A very stable platform for your hands is created, that does not slide around the handlebar.
So on to the second part of this review, how do they work. Well, in a word, stunningly. The large palm grip offers a great deal of support, whilst at the same time feeling soft and comfortable, (your wrists should be comfortably straight when these are fitted correctly). The longer bar-end offers many different hand positions, and like the grips offer a road absorbing, tactile feel that won't be like two blocks of ice on those cold and frosty mornings.
So finally, are they worth the price being asked for them. That's slightly more difficult.
Certainly there are much cheaper alternatives out there, and if all you do is the odd mile around the neighborhood or shops, then maybe $50+ maybe on the high side. If however, you regularly ride longer distances, and your present grips are just not doing it for you, then yes I can fully say that the extra expenditure is well worth it and I would heartily recommend these grips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Won't Disappoint., May 5, 2010

I was looking for grips/bar ends to replace worn ones on my mountain bike. I was a little hesitant to purchase these because of the relatively high price, and because I'm not a real high-mileage rider, but I'm extremely pleased with them. They are very well-designed and manufactured, were easy to install and have a very solid feel. The texture is hard rubber with some softer areas (where your palms rest) and they are comfortable and provides a good grip. I've used them now on three rides and they provide several comfortable hand positions and for me they are a significant improvement over my previous setup of hard rubber grips and aluminum bar ends. I am 6'1" and 220 pounds and wear a large/xl glove, and the large size grips seem to fit me well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than I expected., September 25, 2009

I have a Dahon Curve SL which is a small 16" wheel folding bicyle. It's a great bike but I'm 6'0 feet tall and felt a bit cramped on the bike. I was considering trying to figure out a way to add bullhorn bars plus a stem for additional reach until someone told me about these new Ergon grips which looked like a real simple way of getting the reach, maybe some additional hand positions and still perhaps be able to fold the bike. Well, I've had them for about a month and I have to say they are fantastic and the bike folds as compactly as ever (I just adjust the grips a little before folding up bike). I feel like I'm riding a new bike - I'm now able to stretch out an additional 5 inches or so, additional hand positions, makes for very comfortable distance riding and now the big hills, near my home, in Japan, don't seem so daunting anymore. Very pleased.
