Shreveport's Unofficial Historian,

This review is from: Eric Brock's Shreveport (Hardcover)
Any Shreveporter with even a modicum of interest in the rich history of our community will not be able to put this book down. I first read most of the entries in the book in the old Journal Page. To have them all in one place is a gift.Brock spent countless hours in tireless research putting this all together. Even as a life-long Shreveporter with a ardent interest in history, my horizons have been greatly expanded, and it has given a new dimension to my day to day interaction with my city. Without gushing any more, I would just like to say "Thanks Eric".

This review is from: Eric Brock's Shreveport (Hardcover)
Mr Brock's book is a compilation of many shorter essays written on various aspects of Shreveport history. While perhaps a bit too in depth for someone with a passing interest, I would rate this book as essential to anyone looking to familiarize themselves with the largest city of north Louisiana. As someone who did not grow up in Shreveport, this book has filled in most of the blanks about why the city is the way it is. I've lived here my whole adult life but the stories Brock relates are those that you don't find out unless you possess generations of Shreveport knowledge. I'd strongly recommend this book to anyone new to the Shreveport-Bossier City area. Vignettes on everything from the lives of the city's founders to the development of of each of the key neighborhoods provide fascinating insights. Mr Brock passed away recently and I hate we won't be the recipients of more of his wonderful stories of the capital of Ark-La-Tex.
