Anything Eric Carle does is amazing!

It is only a hard cover book with paper pages that fold out, was not in description, which makes it difficult for a toddler to handle.

Regardless, I highly recommend this book!

I love Eric Carle and his art and this book doesn't disappoint in that respect.
The problem I have with this book is its major design flaw. You see the A page, but to see the next two pages (B and C) you must lift the entire A page up (the fold is at the top of the book). You can imagine that when you refold the page, it doesn't lay flat against the page unless you hold it down at the center binding. If you don't press it down when you turn the page, you bend the page! It's impossible to not bend the page when you are reading to an animated 15 month old... grrr. Also, having pages that are L-shaped (when unfolded they are a large backward L shape) make them VERY easy to tear. And I do mean EASY. My toddler loves to walk around with his books and this one is truly trashed. I think it has 2 or three pages remaining. But since it is his current-reigning favorite book, I have had to buy replacements that only I can hold while I read to him.
His very favorite parts of the book are the front and back pages. The front has the uppercase alphabet and the back has the lowercase alphabet and when he points at it I have to sing the ABC song. Repeatedly. :-)
A minor irritation is Carle's choice of creatures: quetzal, narwhal, xolo (how do you pronounce these words?!?), and unicorn (the only mythical creature). Aagh.

I love Eric Carle's illustrations, and every child should have an ABC primer in his library, but this book is hard to read with a baby on your lap. The pages fold up and out, and aren't easy to hold for the baby to get a good look. As a result, I don't bring it out very often.

I have yet to read a book of Eric Carle's that I didn't love. My two year old loves his books. They are so easy to read and the illustrations are very eye catching. My two year old can practically read this book on his own.

I bought this one for my 14 month old son. My son love these pictures. The L shaped flip model encourages his curiosity and at the same time it will be easy to torn apart... So it is not a durable one.... :)

Perfect for my three year old class. We shared this book with the younger three year old class and the four year old class. Everyone loves it!

I specifically went under BOARD books and this book was listed. Even with a picture, looked like a board book. It is only a hard cover book with paper pages that fold out, was not in description, which makes it difficult for a toddler to handle. We're both unhappy with it.

Everything about this book is beautiful and definitely what you expect from an Eric Carle, but make sure you're aware this isn't a board book. The pages wouldn't be good for a child younger than 18 months, possibly two years because they're easily torn.

I don't know about you, but I remember opening up Eric Carle's books and lighting up with joy as I flipped through the pages. When I was a child, my school would often bring in different books of his, and our teacher would let us read them or he/she would read to us. The colorful pictures and variety of animals, shapes, objects, drawings, etc., you can't be disappointed as a kid. All the things that kids love are in his books. I bought Eric's book sets because of my past memories and fondness with them. As of now, I often use them when I teach to children from the ages of 3-6. In my classes, the books are always a big hit. The children smile when they see the pages turn, and they are able to easily remember the alphabet thanks to the colorful letters. I personally think that everyone who has young ones, or will have young ones, should make this a top priority purchase.
