5.0 out of 5 stars maybe his best effort
I found this cd in the bargain bin of a a local record store. I was glad I took a chance because this is the only one of Erics works I like every song on. If you ever come across this cd pick it up!!!! You won't be sorry you did. American as apple pie is my favorite.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost A Rasberry!
The rest of the yahoo's reviews on this page are citing the wrong album! This was Eric's Geffen release that went unnoticed by everyone. In fact, this was the closest Eric ever came to recapturing his glory Power Pop sounds of the Raspberries. Eric still pounds away his M.O.R. today and misses out on the greatest Americna Pop band reunion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric is Awesome!, October 17, 2001

I originally had this album on cassette in High School. In fact, my Pom Pon squad even performed a kick routine to "Spotlight". Eric is a master with lyrics and seems to be able to capture everyone's feelings at some point in their life, as though he was writing the song for you.

My personal favorite is "I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips." Now that is a tune to drive to with the windows rolled down and the speakers jamming!

This CD is a definite "must have".

4.0 out of 5 stars Out of print ... an overlooked great album, November 5, 2005
By
This review is from: Eric Carmen (Audio CD)
I used to have this album on vinyl ... and I wish I still did, because it is very hard to locate on CD unless you want to fork out a fortune for it. This CD is out of print across the world. This is Eric Carmen's 1984 album featuring the great single "I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips". This is a true feel-good song, but it never appears on any of his "Best Of" albums. IN fact none of the songs from this album do, and that is because it was produced by Geffen records, whereas his compilations are produced by EMI records. Other great songs on this album include "She Remembered", "I'm Through With Love" and the wonderful "Way We Used To Be". I hope this album will get a re-release one day ... it is certainly worth it.

I got this when it came out and again on cd, I'm a big fan and this cd is good but not one of his best. there are some great songs on it tho and it is worth getting. 'she remembered ' is very nice and makes you wish someone played it at your high school when you went back 20 years later. get this cd its good and you'll like it tony

5.0 out of 5 stars Carmen's Overlooked Masterpiece, October 13, 2010
This review is from: Eric Carmen (Audio CD)
I worked in the music industry for many, many years. During my tenure, I always told myself that I had "good ears". That is, that I was able to ascertain commercial viability based upon a few listens.

When this album came out, I thought that it was destined for greatness. Though "I Heard It Through Your Lips" was the designated single, I thought that it wasn't the strongest track on the album. Indeed, the three ballads were just powerhouses: (a) "I'm Through With Love", (b) "She Remembered", (c)"The Way We Used To Be".

I recently returned to this album and wanted to see whether my recollection was consistent with the present. Indeed, the ballads retain their power. Even more so. The three aforementioned songs are so strong that it's shocking to me that they remain overlooked. Where is the enterprising Broadway producer who could use these three for a score?

In this case, my ears were right. The public was wrong. Or maybe my competitors didn't give the push that this album deserved. The cover sucks. Everything else is wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best ever, April 22, 2000

This is an absolute masterpiece by Carmen. The ballads are just unbeatable. "She Remembered", in particular, may be the best song ever written. But all 10 songs are very enjoyable. Buy this CD! It is an absolute must-have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Like revisiting the old hits, April 15, 2005

This is a fun album, great pop! "You Took Me All the Way" is a "Go All the Way" update, just as "She Remembered" is pretty much the flip of "I Can Remember". "I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips" and "Maybe My Baby" are fun to sing with, while "I'm Through With Love" and "The Way We Used to Be" are great achy ballads. The cover photo with Eric with the cigarette in his mouth always makes me shudder, but if you enjoy melodic music with great harmony, you'll love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars AN ERIC CARMEN CLASSIC (THE MAN IS TRULY UNDERATED), June 15, 1998
This review is from: Eric Carmen (Audio CD)
IF YOU LIKE LOVE SONGS THIS IS THE CD FOR YOU. "I'M THROUGH WITH LOVE", "SHE REMEMBERED" AND "THE WAY WE USED TO BE" ARE AS GOOD AS HIS CLASSICS "ALL BY MYSELF" AND " NEVER GONNA FALL IN LOVE AGAIN". I HAD FIRST BOUGHT THE CASSETTE BACK IN 1985 AND LOST IT SHORTLY AFTER. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR IT SINCE, TRUST ME IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT. THERE ARE ALOT OF MEMORIES, SOME GOOD AND SOME BAD, I HAVE WITH THIS ALBUM BUT IS NOT THAT WHAT MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT?

2.0 out of 5 stars HEY, AMAZON!, June 25, 2004
By
This review is from: Eric Carmen (Audio CD)
After reading the reviews for this 1984 Eric Carmen bowl-bobber and those for his excellent 1975 debut, I've come to the conclusion that AMAZON HAS LUMPED THEM ALL TOGETHER!!! The original doesn't deserve to be paired with this piece of trash. They're two very different albums, one done before Eric began doing music for the prematurely comatose, one that was the start of the coma.
