REMARKABLE!!!,

This review is from: Eric Clapton - One More Car One More Rider (DVD)
If it's true that Eric is finished with touring, then he has left us with one masterpiece to view over and over again. It takes us through his career from Cream, Derek & the Dominoes, and his solo works up to Reptile. I saw two of these concerts on this tour and the DVD captures it as wonderfully as I remember it. Clapton's guitar work is fantatic whether on acoustic or electric. he guitar solos are out of this world especially on electric(even though I missed Ol' Blackie). The sound on DTS is superb. And as always his band is top notch. Actually there are twenty songs on the DVD "Will It Go Round In Circles" a Billy Preston hit is performd by him. As you can tell I'm not a writer but I just had to comment on this DVD and if you like this DVD, buy "Live At Hyde Park".

FANTASTIC!,

For too long I have tried to find a concert album/DVD of Eric Clapton that did him justice. Quite frankly, after five or six, going back to the 60's, I was fixing to hang-it-up. Infact, I had stopped looking several years ago, and it was only when I was looking for something else that I stumbled across this gem. With a little old (Layla, Cocaine, Sunshine of Your Love), new (Reptile), some ballads (Tears in Heaven), and standards (Hoochie Coochie Man), this DVD is a great collection of his best work. What's really amazing is that the sounds are so clear, so concise, it's what a concert DVD should be like.
Plus, you get a surprise near the end when Billie Preston sings and dances to "Will it Go Round in Circles." If you buy this and you are disappointed, I'd start questioning whether you really liked Clapton, or just liked saying you liked Clapton.

I was lucky enough to attend the show that was filmed and made into this DVD at the Staples Center in LA on August 18, 2001, and it was by far the best concert I've ever been to. I couldn't believe it when I heard that a DVD was coming out of the show that I was actually at, and so I waited patiently until it was released. This DVD is absolutely phenomenal, and Eric Clapton's talents are on full display. He doesn't miss a note all night on guitar, he most definitely knows how to pick a band, and his voice is absolutely great. His voice has not been his claim to fame, but after seeing this concert I was amazed at what a great vocalist he really is, and he is definitely underappreciated in this area. Some of the highlights of this DVD are the opener Key to the Highway (his acoustic playing is ridiculous), My Father's Eyes (great intro), Have you ever loved a woman (just for Billy Preston's B3 organ solo), Wonderful Tonight (for the extended jam at the end), Layla (of course), and the Billy Preston hit Will it go round in Circles, which Billy sings (and dances to!) After watching this DVD, any doubts you might have had about Clapton's abilities will be washed away, and you will be in absolute amazement.

Fan or not a must have!,

This DVD is well worth the money. If you are are a EC fan you don't want to miss it. It might be the last concert recording that he does. The video is clear and the shooters are on the money. Occasionally giving you the veiw from the audience perspective. Lots of camera angles keep it interesting too. It's hard to explain the audio in words but I'll try. With a DTS setup, this is must have for any music lover, whether your a Clapton fan or not! A few times the acoustic leads are not up front enough and there might be a time or two where the drums over power the rest of the mix. But considering the afore mention imperfections lasts only about 30 seconds, the audio is truly outstanding. This concert performance is awesome. The flow of the material, the professionalism of the band all contribute to this being one of the best music concert performances I've seen in awhile. Fan or not a must have!

Same songs, but WOW what sounds and what a performance!,

Looking at the playlist, it seems like another Clapton concert, essentially the same songs as "Unplugged","24 Nights", "Chronicles" and "Friends in Hyde Park". These are all wonderful performances captured on DVD, but this concert has an extra dynamic quality to it. You find yourself drawn into this 2001 concert, you are enjoying the music and experience as much as the musicians. It could be the wonderful long solos by Clapton, the energy that Billy Preston adds by punctuating the songs with his organ, Nathan East's bass or the organ and electronic wind playing of David Sancious and Greg Phillinganes. The songs cover Eric's career from Derek and the Domino's through Reptile - acoustic and electric (with an unusual lack of guitar changes). You will enjoy this concert over and over! Save yourself some money and get the combo DVD/CD package - you will want to listen at home on your theater system and while traveling.

Okay...I'm not a writer or journalist by any degree...and I've been waiting for a Great sounding Clapton DVD for ages and this one far exceeds my expectations! Thank you Eric Clapton! If you are an audiophile and have a great appreciation for superb recordings, this DVD in DTS will blow you away! I'm watching this for the first time as I sit and write this, and was surprised that no one has reviewed this DVD yet. The video and audio is SO crisp and clear that you WILL feel like you are at this show! Clapton opens acoustically with Key To The Highway and any guitarist will love watching the closeups of Claptons guitar work throughout the entire 2 hour show!! If your a bassist, and know of Nathan East's diverse and creative playing styles you'll find he holds the groove better than no other!!! This DVD has features many of Clapton's classics, blues standards, and a few selections from Reptile and Pilgrim. I highly recommend this one for your collection and I know you'll watch it again and again! I could keep writing on and on...but I'm going back to watch the show!

One More DTS DVD!,

This review is from: Eric Clapton - One More Car One More Rider (DVD)
This is the best sounding live concert DVD I have ever heard. The DTS mix is spot on. I don't think it could have been done better except for boosting the volume on the drums slightly. Incredible. Great show put on by Eric and the boys. A little, unplugged, a little blues, a little rock and roll and a lot of Eric. I deducted one star for the spotty video quality here and there. Some cameras and angles are always in focus with the right light level, others are sometimes out of focus and a tad grainy. Still probably the best I have yet seen on DVD. If this is ever broadcast in HD and done correctly (not on FOX) it will be spectacular. 480p does not do it justice.

Not His Best, But Still Darn Good,

It's the job of any reviewer to be as unbiased as possible. However, if you've loved the work of an artist before you review a new piece, then those influences will carry over whether or not it's a conscious decision. I think this is the reason I'm giving this DVD four stars rather than three. Overall, would I recommend you buy this DVD? Yes. Let me tell you why I think you should have it in your library, but also why I'm not over-the-top enthusiastic. Positives: Another positive aspect of this DVD is the range of musical genres and talent Clapton displays. The songlist spans three decades of composition. And, if you include the wonderfully adapted "Over the Rainbow" closing track, he spans four styles of music and slam dunks each one of them: Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Folk. Without a doubt, the best track on this DVD is "River of Tears," an epic blues tune which tells a story and features Clapton doing what he does best ... closing his eyes, leaning back, and letting the blues pour out through his guitar. The Negatives: Clapton fan? You have to own this DVD. Casual Clapton fan? Get the Clapton Unplugged DVD instead. The range of styles and genres are fewer, but the enjoyment of performing is twice what this DVD offers.

One of the best concert DVDs,
By
This review is from: Eric Clapton - One More Car One More Rider (DVD)
First off, I got this DVD with the 2 CD set of "One More Car One More Rider." It is so good, I would gladly pay full price for just the DVD.
The first thing you will notice about this DVD is the picture and audio quality. I by no means have a high dollar home theater setup, but the DTS track sounds simply unbelievable. It is certainly the best sounding concert DVD I own (and I have quite a few.) The 5.1 track sounds good, but the DTS is too good to be true. Kudos to whoever did the audio mastering on this disc. Now for the band. Naturally, there's Eric Clapton, one of the true masters of the guitar. The band he assembled for this show is remarkable. First, there's Billy Preston on keyboard and hammond organ. He needs no introduction, and his rendition of "Will it go Round in Circles" is worth the price of the DVD alone. On drums, there's Steve Gadd, one of the true masters, even though he is really getting up there in age (and it shows during this show. He looks pretty beat.) With Nathan East on bass, Andy Fairweather Low and David Sancious on guitar, you're in for a fantastic viewing. The show does start a little show, but there are some serious highlights here, including "Layla" (the way it is supposed to be played,) "Badge" "Hootchie Coochie Man" and "Sunshine of your Love". He even closes with a good rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." If you love Eric Clapton and are into concert DVDs, this is simply a must-own. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

At first, I was reluctant to get this one. I was thinking "Oh, he's been around for so long,he probably sounds old & tired."Well, he HAS been around for a long time, but he sounds far from old & tired. In fact, Eric & his band sound fantastic. Some of the songs are new (Reptile, River of Tears) and some old classics (Layla, Sunshine of you're love) It doesn't really matter if they're old or new,Eric gives them new life. While the whole thing was good, some highlights for me were: The only gripe I have about this is that Clapton looks so serious all the time. Come on Eric, enjoy yourself! when you do, we do! Highly reccomended |
