This review is from: Eric Johnson: The Fine Art of Guitar (DVD)
I got the DVD yesterday and had to watch it. Having previously watched Eric's first instructional video I was very curious about this one. This is certainly a MUST HAVE for all advanced Lead Guitar Players. This goes into a lot of detail about Eric's personal style. In Eric's first video he showed styles he liked to use in his playing etc...however this IS HIS style. Tons of examples on his way of doing arppegios, string skipping, he explains his tone, how he approaches song writing etc... I know I will be watching this DVD over and over again. The DVD comes with a booklet of examples. In addition, it provides you to slow-down every expercise by 50% and still keep the pitch. Great for exercise. Guys this is one of the best instructional DVDs I've owned...and believe me I have TONS. Definitely on top of my DVD stack! :-) MUST BUY NOW!!!
PS: "Total Electric Guitar" has the same cool features. I got both. My wife already ordered his latest DVD for "Father's Day" :-) Now I just need his Signature Fender Strat and ready to go. ;-)

Great window into Eric's style,
This review is from: Eric Johnson: The Fine Art of Guitar (DVD)
In Total Electric Guitar, eric goes over his different influences and how they influenced his style. In this, he goes over the subtler aspects of his style. Eric briefly goes over technique, this time going into more detail about dampening, string stretching (including koto technique and volume swells) and vibrato. He also gives tips for making your playing more dynamic and expressive, and thinking creatively. Eric gives a brief overview of his slide and acoustic playing. Throughout the dvd, he gives performances of his songs from "Venus Isle". This is a great addition to his first dvd, but this dvd emphasizes more of the embellishments that he adds to his playing. I suugest that you first go through Total Electric Guitar, and if you want to go deeper into his style, then buy this.

Of the 12 or so guitar instructional videos I own, this is in the top 3. It just makes me want to play better, and really shows you how. Very inspirational.
I had the peasure to see Eric this summer live. It was incredible. Other titles worth looking at are Warren Haynes Slide Guitar and Andy Summers of the Police- especially if you like jazz and cool chords (I have on vhs, and it may be unavailable new).
