An Enjoyable Read,
By Morlock Rising (Santa Clara, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Erick and Sally (Kindle Edition)
This story has many characters, mostly children, and can get a little confusing at first but after a while the characters show they're own personal touches. Sally is the daughter of a pastor and lives with two brothers Ritz and Edi, as well as her parents and aunt. The town is subdivided by schools and such; Upper Wood, Lower Wood and Middle Lot. These divisions have somewhat of a class angle about them and many of the children look upon them as teams to root against and get up to mischief. The community becomes much excited when a well known elder-lady, Marianne, gives board to two strangers, Erick and his mother, both of whom wear fancy clothes and entail much mystery. I'm not sure if my copy is the same copy as this but I was disappointed to find a translation year, which may or may not necessarily be the true date that the author penned this, in what was most likely another language. Johanna Spyri is most under-rated. Heidi was grand and worth re-reading but there are PLENTY of others! I hope others read more and review more. It would be nice to pick another book by her with some idea of what it's about!
