Book Description

October 1998
This monograph, originally published by Gingko Press in 1986, sold more than 25,000 copies worldwide and is the definitive work on Asplund.

Asplund became the dominant representative of the Scandinavian classicism which marked the twenties, known as 'Swedish Grace'. He then became the leading light of functionalism, but soon moved from stereo-typed modernism to a traditionally based architecture. His influence today is felt far afield.

Asplund remains at the focal point of architectural debates. This groundbreaking work includes essays by Kenneth Frampton, Stuart Wrede, Elias Cornell, and is published with photos, drawings and plans.

This review is from: Erik Gunnar Asplund: Architect (Hardcover)
This is the best book I have seen on the works of swedish architect Eric Gunnar Asplund. The articles by Caldenby and Cornell are very helpfull to understand the background of the designer. The book puts Asplund work at the level of Gropius and Mies Van der Rohe, right where it belongs. It does justice to this not very "popular" architect.
