Book Description

Newmarket Shooting Script January 5, 2001

A moving, funny, and unconventional drama based on true events, Erin Brockovich stars Academy Award® nominee Julia Roberts as the twice-divorced mother of three young children who uncovers an injustice, takes on the bad guy, and wins. Directed by Steven Soderbergh (sex, lies, and videotape, Kafka, Out of Sight), this acclaimed Universal Pictures release features Albert Finney, Aaron Eckhart and Marg Helgenberger in a gripping story of truth, tragedy, and triumph.

With no job, no money, and no prospects, Erin Brockovich is a woman in a tough spot. But when she fast-talks her way into a job at lawyer Ed Masry's (Finney's) office, they both get more than they bargain for. The original screenplay by Susannah Grant, based on the real-life heroine Erin Brockovich, is, in the words of Chris Hewitt, critic for the Knight-Ridder News Service,“direct, intelligent, and witty in a way you wouldn't expect a movie about a class-action lawsuit to be.” In our Newmarket Shooting Script® Series format, here is the complete shooting script, an introduction by Susannah Grant, movie stills, production notes, and complete cast and crew credits.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

With a number of features, the hit TV series Party of Five, and the phenomenal success of Erin Brockovich to her credit, Grant is on Hollywood's A-list. The film, starring Julia Roberts in her Golden Globe Award-winning (and Academy Award-nominated) title role performance, is the true story of the twice-divorced single parent of three who, jobless and broke, goes to work for the attorney who fails to win her a judgment in an automobile accident. She stumbles upon a contaminated water cover-up in a local community, which culminates in the firm's winning the largest paid settlement, $333 million, in a direct-action proceeding in U.S. history. Grant introduces the script, and numerous stills, production notes, and cast/crew credits are appended. The Oscar bees began buzzing around this hive early on. An excellent selection for mainstream film collections.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Exact, but Excellent None-the-less, May 30, 2006
By
MG (Phoenix, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Erin Brockovich: The Shooting Script (Newmarket Shooting Script Series) (Paperback)
Erin Brockovich was made up of some of the best screenwriting Hollywood has to offer. Susannah Grant is incredible, witty, and to the point. If you are an aspiring screenwriter, this script is an essential read. It is a perfect example of the model Hollywood script. No fluffy detail or unneeded dialogue. She's got her craft down.

This version is the shooting script, but is not completely exact with the movie. Only minor details have been changed. Get yourself a copy of this script and relive the power of this movie word by word.
