Ferenc Erkel should get more recognition both inside and outside Hungary. He composed several operas along with the Hungarian National Anthem. Only two of his operas are available. This one is an excellent performance. The other one, is called Bank Ban. It is also a beautiful composition, but unfortuantely the Hungarians are marketing a disgraceful recording, due to a "voiceless" tenor in the title role. Can anyone talk them into making a recording of Bank Ban with the singers of this Hunyadi Laszlo production?

This was my first experience of the Hungarian composer Erkel, but what a treat! Torrents of gorgeous sound and melody, and some really wild singing! It ranks with any Verdi opera I've ever heard.
