Great sound but lots of G tuning issues,
By
This review is from: Ernie Ball 2008 Earthwood 80/20 Bronze Rock & Blues Acoustic String Set, (10 - 52) (Electronics)
I had never used these strings before I got my new Taylor 114CE guitar. Had the guitar setup and the technician recommended these Ernie Ball Earthwood strings because of the sound and the type of playing I told him I did. After the initial setup with the new strings I played for about 2 weeks and had noticeable tuning issues with the G but didn't think a whole lot about it. I brought the guitar back to the shop to get the action lowered. He replaced the strings with another pair of these Ernie Ball Earthwood strings. After about 3 more weeks of playing I finally realized this out-of-tune G string issue was getting out of control. I did some reading and realized others have experienced the same issue with these strings. The G is not a wound string so it always seems to sound a little "off" even when in tune. I would tune my guitar, play for about a minute and then re-check my tuning again. Not once did the G stay in tune...all the other strings were perfect. For the sake of experimentation, I replaced only the G string with an alternate string I had lying around and have no tuning issues whatsoever anymore. When the strings are in tune, they sound awesome. But constant tuning isn't an option when trying to play live.

I mistakenly bought these, but a buyer should know that the G string is NOT wound. I bought the same Ernie Ball 80/20's with the wound G with an little E of 12 (live and learn). Those sound great.

These 80/20 Bronze strings feel and sound batter than any Phosphor Bronze strings I've ever played. They give my steel string acoustic guitar the Electric feel I want, more than any other strings I've tried. Not quite Super Slinky, but more Slinky than other acoustic strings available. I'll never switch back to Phosphor Bronze again! The plain steel 'G' string makes less noise when changing chords too. Some reviews say this string won't stay tuned, but I've never had a problem. They even stay tuned under extreme bending conditions. Less neck tension too. I give the Rock and Blues strings 2 thumbs up! Too bad my local music stores won't stock them, so I'm ordering 2 sets from Amazon.

The first set of strings I received were badly corroded, unfortunately the corrosion was on the thinner strings and I had already installed the E, A, and D Strings before I got to a corroded string. I had one extra set of strings so I was not terribly inconvenienced, and I have not opened the new ones, but they are in a sealed Package so expect they will be OK until I need to change strings again. Return was free and the replacements were there before I managed to ship the old ones back.

These strings are my favorite of the Earthwood line. On first use they sound just slightly darker than other Earthwood strings, but they have a very nice bite when you dig into them.
One thing I've noticed is that they seem to bend much better than the other Earthwoods. I had many sets of plain Earthwood lights, and you could hardly bend it a full step before the G string. With these it's quite easy. The strings do stretch quite a bit, so after putting them on and tuning up, it's best to go on each string, bend them a bit, and retune until they stop going out of tune. So yeah, great strings, would buy again, etc.

My brother turned me on to these acoustic strings. IM always game to try diffrent products so I said "What the hell". Wonderful investment!! IM sold on these strings. They are of course Ernie Ball, and high quality. They are very "player friendly" (not hard on your hand)and have a wonderful tone! All in all... I think these Earthwood acoustic strings are far above any other string on the market today. If you don't believe me buy a pack and be the judge. You won't go back!

I have only tried a few brands and varieties of strings so far, because ive only been playing guitar for about a year, but these are a great pace to start. Try them out at least! Very good sound.

I am a new guitarist but a musician of 15 years. I tried these strings out just to get a good idea of what other strings my sound like compared to the elixir brand. In my experience I have found elixir to have the best tone as well as longevity. The tone of these strings for my fender acoustic electric was a significant drop in quality. The tone is mediocre with the g string having a very metallic sound.

Get Your Hands On Ernie Balls,

Nothing feels better in your hands than Ernie Balls. Its that familiar feeling when your hand is wrapped around the neck and your fingers are plucking Ernie Balls that make these strings give off that pleasing sound. If you're not plucking Ernie Balls, you're just playing with sagging strings.
