Centaur Heart by Lucinda Betts

Princess Akantha chooses Lycurgus, the Lapith King as her champion in the Mother Rite. Everything would be perfect if there wasn't the Centaur King, Chiron who insists that she is making a mistake. Suddenly she doesn't know who to trust as she is attracted to Chiron.

Ms. Betts delivered with CENTAUR HEART a great story that leaves the reader guessing how the unlikely couple will find their way to each other. At the beginning Akantha hates all Centaurs, but especially Chiron and Chiron is too much of an Alpha male to be a meek Princess consort. So a war of wills is guaranteed and the fun begins.

Dream Well by Dawn Thompson

The knight Gar Trivelyan finds himself suddenly in the Celtic Otherworld, he has no idea how he got there or how to get out. But he has more intriguing things on his mind, because the Goddess of the Well offered him a night of passion.

DREAM WELL is an intriguing story full of love, hate, passion and trickery. The story is very suspenseful and the characters range from absolutely pure hearted to impersonated evil. DREAM WELL is like no other story that I have ever read and Ms. Thompson drew me into the story.

Thunderstruck by Devyn Quinn

Danicia's life wasn't the best, but everything changes when her latest art work of the mythological Herakles came to life. Danicia thinks she's finally lost her mind.

Ms. Quinn writes like no one else. Her writing captivates her readers and sucks them into her stories. It's always a pleasure to read one of her books.

EROS ISLAND is a very sexy and enchanting collection of paranormal/mythological stories. Definitely not a book you want to miss

4.0 out of 5 stars Titillating Trio of Stories, April 13, 2008

Wanting to try new authors in this genre, I stumbled upon Eros Island, a compliation of fanciful and erotic tales written by three talented story tellers.

Centaur Heart by Lucinda Betts was the weakest of the three, but the premise was an interesting one. The characters were not well developed and the story lacked cohesion. The romance aspect was odd.

The Dream Well written by Dawn Thompson had all the details this author is known for: fanciful settings and steamy love scenes. It was an intriguing tale set in the world of the Fey with interesting characters, sultry scenes, romance, and even a little conflict included in its 80 pages.

Thunderstruck by Devyn Quinn was the raciest of the three. Non stop heat and action and a little time travel mixed in for good measure. The story ended rather abruptly, but otherwise it was an entertaining read.

Definitely a good *bang* for the buck, Eros Island is all it promises to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eros Island, March 21, 2008

"Centaur Heart" by Lucinda Betts

Princess Akantha is ready for The Mother Rite and has already chosen her champion - Lycurgus, the Lapith King. However, Chiron, the Centaur King, keeps showing up and insisting that Akantha is making a mistake and must allow Chiron to be her champion. But as Lycurgus shows his true colors, deities being meddling, and Akantha receives advice from all sorts of sources, who is she to trust? Chiron, whose attraction she fears? Lycurgus, who seeks to destroy the Centaurs? The Mother Goddess, who is mysterious in her design?

"Centaur Heart" is full of surprises, and deft twists in the plot will keep you guessing how the happy ending will be delivered. Akantha is a strong woman who is not afraid to reach out and grab what she desires - even if it requires a battle. Chiron is an Alpha male through and through who is not diminished for being the consort to a strong woman who knows her mind. All in all, "Centaur Heart" is a fun and entertaining tale about love set in a mythical time.

"The Dream Well" by Dawn Thompson

Gar Trivelyan is a knight who has found himself in the astral world of the Celtic Otherworld without knowledge of how he got there, and more importantly, how to get out. The Goddess of the Well, Analee, heals his wounds and offers him something he can't resist - one night of passion with her...

"The Dream Well" is a complex tale of passion, love, hate and trickery. As Analee weaves a sensual spell over Gar, he must fight to remain sane and escape her clutches, but in the meantime, Gar must also survive the hatred of Analee's consort. Gar is a curious character that blends the blindness of lust with the wisdom to try and escape Analee. "The Dream Well" is a suspenseful tale with characters ranging from the pure of heart to the black hearted, creating stark contrasts.

"Thunderstruck" by Devyn Quinn

Danicia Ryan is a renowned marble sculptor and her latest masterpiece is beyond compare. However, Danicia's life hasn't fared so well - her husband left her, she tried to commit suicide and now she is all alone. When her sculpture of Herakles comes to life, Danicia has to wonder if she is losing touch with reality...

"Thunderstruck" is tale that explores the sexual needs of a successful woman and her adventures with the mythological god Herakles. Danicia is not a very attractive character as she has too much disdain for herself as a woman and only changes her outlook upon Herakles' regard. Still, Danicia and Herakles get up to all sorts of raunchy fun that will entertain you as it heats you up!

Eros Island is an intriguing collection of tales that take a myth in one form or another and bring it to life. However, it must be noted that while all authors bring unique mythical aspects to the anthology, all three stories are more about lust and sexual satisfaction than romance. Also, the overuse of euphemisms for body parts and physical sensations during sex coupled with extensive and wordy descriptions made reading tedious and repetitive at times. Taken all together, Eros Island is a hot collection of stories that will distract you from everyday life.

5.0 out of 5 stars three erotic romantic fantasies, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Eros Island (Paperback)
"Centaur" Heart by Lucinda Betts. Princess Akantha loathes centaurs, but she especially hates Chiron. However, the goddess decides Chiron is good for Akantha and uses magic to enhance what the princess hides from even herself; that she desires the centurion.

"The Dream Well" by Dawn Thompson. Lost in the Celtic woods, knight Gar Trivelyan reaches "The Dream Well". He touches its ancient stones, which leads to one of two sisters rising from seemingly nowhere and telling him she wants him. Gar desires her too, but if she is evil Analee he will regret his decision for eternity; while if she is kindhearted Anya he will know love for eternity.

"Thunderstruck" by Devyn Quinn. Sculptor Danicia Ryan is creating a naked marble statue of Herakles as she envisions the demi-god. When her statue comes to life, she finds his sexual desire for her incredible, as they share her ecstatic fantasies.

These three erotic romantic fantasies will thrill sub-genre fans as each author insures the magic including sexual enhances their respective well written tale.

3 short novellas, rating each separately I've averaged the book a solid 2 star rating.

1. CENTAUR HEART by Lucinda Betts - 3 Stars and the best of the lot.
I thought this story was interesting. The world created took place in an ancient time period, when goddesses lived, centaurs roamed and the elements were ruled by gods. I don't remember much of Greek mythology, but decided, yes, Centaurs would be bulls-eye shots with their arrows. This author did a fine job creating her characters. I felt I could easily picture them. For being short, it was done well, although the story encompassed only one big event. All the characters that were involved received great attention as to who they were, what they were about, and were easy to categorize by this reader (are they good, bad, or worse). And yes, the heat sizzled. From beginning to end, I felt the story was complete in spite of it's word length.

2. THE DREAM WELL by Dawn Thompson - 1 star
I didn't enjoy this story at all, but read it anyway because it's getting swapped as soon as I finish my review.
The story idea was a good one. But this author couldn't pull it off and blew it at the get-go. Her writing seemed disjointed to me, and very amateur. Scottish lore of the fey and the otherworld was the setting for this one. A Knight is the H who grew up on Scottish lore at his mother's knee. (Knights were English, right?). A Centaur was plopped in it also, along with goddesses, etc. I couldn't work up any interest in any of these characters, let alone the story.
The goddess of the well's main purpose was to have sex and more sex and enslave the captive with even more sex. The Centaur who is her consort, watches on as she has sex with the captive knight whom she granted a wish to. And the knight the goddess of the well has enchanted with sex and more sex? He falls for a seal (yes, she's a selkie, he just "knows" this in spite of her whiskers and fins and a big furry coat. How does he know, because she has long lashed, soulful eyes and when she strokes him with her fin, well it is just so loving and sensual (give me a break).
In spite of all the sex in this story, there was not ONE flicker of heat generated, or, enjoyment in reading the scenes. They were tiresome.

Anyway,

3. THUNDERSTRUCK by Devyn Quinn - 2 1/2 stars. Really wanted to give it 3, but can't because the author compromised the potential of this short story.

While reading, it struck me that Ms. Quinn really has a talent for writing, but she wasted it in this one. What a shame.
The story begins as an artist has just completed her masterpiece sculpture in a marble likeness of a Greek god. Quinn's writing got my complete attention because it was done so well (in the beginning of the story). I was drawn to this artist heroine and then, BLAM, the story went to hell.
How? The marble comes to life and the interesting, warm, likeable artist sculpturor, who gave her heart and soul to creating this masterpiece...turns into a completely different individual. She is now a sex obsessed, libido centered, one dimensional character who I didn't give a sh_t about.

There was more sizzle and burn when the sculpture was marble then when it took on the persona of the man god.

Only upped the star rating to the 1/2 because I saw Devyn Quinn's talent at the beginning of her story. I so hated to see that talent wasted and her gift compromised in the last part with such lousey writing. I just couldn't give more.
And, I probably won't spend money on a book she writes if this is what she does with her skill.
