4.0 out of 5 stars I'm satisfied!
The "How to Draw Manga" and similar books aren't good refrences for learning how to actually draw things in the first place (the best method is to study life, human models, etc), but they're good for getting a person in the mood to draw and just seeing how other people do things since that's also important in finding your own style. So, I usually treat them like art...

3.0 out of 5 stars More of a demonstration than instructional
This book shows how various artists created specific artworks, rather than actually teaching you how to create manga yourself. It shows a series of pictures which show the development of about 40 individual artworks, from pencil stage to complete full-color. This review is from: Erotic Manga: Draw Like the Experts (Paperback)
This book shows how various artists created specific artworks, rather than actually teaching you how to create manga yourself. It shows a series of pictures which show the development of about 40 individual artworks, from pencil stage to complete full-color. Next to each picture it says things like "now draw the items in the background" or "now fill in the highlights and shadows", without actually teaching you HOW to do these things.

I think a much better book is "How To Draw Manga Volume 20: Female Characters". This book breaks down how to actually draw attractive female characters.

The "How to Draw Manga" and similar books aren't good refrences for learning how to actually draw things in the first place (the best method is to study life, human models, etc), but they're good for getting a person in the mood to draw and just seeing how other people do things since that's also important in finding your own style. So, I usually treat them like art books instead of guides/textbooks.

That being said, I thought this book was fun and was glad to add it to my library. The insight other artist's have is always fun to read. I kind of wish there were more erotic mangaka presented, aside from the original author. It's also tasteful and I found it a pleasant surprise to see attractive males depicted as well. It would be nice to see it expanded upon in a small series or another artist try their hand at creating one to see how it turns out.

It's the only manga "instructonal" book I've paid for. :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but a heads up..., October 22, 2009

This review is from: Erotic Manga: Draw Like the Experts (Paperback)
Okay, so this book is great if you want a fairly in-depth book on drawing mostly nude (Breasts only, mind you) females in some erotic poses. I'll also admit that it's well done for what it is, but there are only like 4 males in the entire book. It really, as far as 'Erotic" is concerned, is referring only to the poses and breasts of the females in the book, otherwise, it's pg.
This is intended as a sort of... know what your buying before you buy it, type of review. I personally found it relatively misleading by the title, something I'll admit I'm not used to with art books, as they tend to be quite straight forward in that respect. I would re-title it to "Provocative Manga: Draw Like the Experts" Not quite erotic, in the expected sense. Otherwise, it seems to be a fine book.

1.0 out of 5 stars sucks, February 28, 2010

I was expecting a step by step lesson on how to draw. What this book shows is only elements of what is attractive in manga (ie; "sexy maid costumes are sexy. draw a girl in a maid uniform." -- Oh yeah? HOW?) They only give instruction on WHAT to do not HOW to do it! The "How to Draw Manga 21" is so much better. http://www.amazon.com/How-Draw-Manga-21-Bishoujo/dp/4766111486/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1Z3NFPYIP3FMW&colid=1UMMXM1Y5AMO8

This book is dumb.

3.0 out of 5 stars Drawing experience required, March 10, 2008
This review is from: Erotic Manga: Draw Like the Experts (Paperback)
This book is isn't really that useful since the authors think that you already know how to draw people and have certain experience using photoshop or painter of which ever program they used to color the illustrations. The illustrations are quite good too but these are merely demonstrations.

If you want to draw erotic manga, buy one of those how to draw female manga characters books for the basics of drawing the female figure.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for Beginning Artists, December 27, 2007
By
Darknight07 (Lacey, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Erotic Manga: Draw Like the Experts (Paperback)
The back of the book says "will teach artists of all levels, from beginner to advanced". I'm sure it is a good book for those who know how to draw already, but if you are a beginner it does not provide enough information to do anything other than hopefully imitate what you are being shown as examples.

Most characters have seven steps to create them:
1. Layout
2. Volume
3. Anatomy
4. Line Work
5. Lighting
6. Coloring
7. Finish

Each section has 1 or 2 paragraphs to describe what is being done in the drawing pictured, but now how most of the time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, November 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Erotic Manga: Draw Like the Experts (Paperback)
This book is poor at best. It has nice art work but not much in the way of drawing tips. Each picture has a whole 2 or 3 pages with 90% of that just being the picture. It's more of what the guy was thinking when he was drawing the pictures then anything else.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Service, September 17, 2011

This review is from: Erotic Manga: Draw Like the Experts (Paperback)
I've looked at the book and all at a book store such as Barnes and Nobles and Borders. I enjoy the book and I alreayd knew what I was paying for, so I would say that the book is great to have, but also along with the other reviews, you should know how to draw fairly well otherwise this book probably won't be helpful, but I find that it is. Anyway, when I attempted to buy it from this seller I never got my book. I went through a whole process of waiting a little over a month to recieve it. I contacted the seller and they never contacted back. I would recommend not buying from this seller, but you can if you wish.

2.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY, April 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Erotic Manga: Draw Like the Experts (Paperback)
This book will not teach you to draw. It does not talk about proportion, composition, line weight etc. Grab something else that will teach you the basics. The author doesn't even say if he/she used a computer program to color or markers. Other than that the art in it are okay. The price isn't worth it trust me. If it was for free than grab it.
