Book Description

Temporis November 1, 2000
When we think of Berlin in the roaring twenties, many images stream forth, but the most endearing is of the Alexanderplatz, the heart of nighttime Berlin and capital of amusement in Europe.

With such a sensuous history, the Erotic Museum has an appropriate home in Berlin. The collection is vast, recording erotic life from classical antiquity to the body-cult in the late 20th century. This collection of eroticism spans 2,000 years of the history of mankind.

In this book, Professor Hans-Jurgen Dopp brings together over 400 photographs, objects, prints and paintings of each phase of human life, illustrating how erotic preferences changed throughout the centuries. The Erotic Museum treats eroticism with taste and delicacy thanks to its author, who has written extensively in the art world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible book, highly recommended!, June 20, 2009
This is a big, beautiful catalog of the art and artifacts found in the Erotic Museum in Berlin, Germany. It has crisp, full-color photographs of thousands of items from this premier collection, including paintings, illustrations, engravings, artifacts, sculpture, decorative arts, and many other objects - all with a sexual or erotic theme. Some of these are famous and recognizable, but most are unique and unlike anything you have ever seen before. Every photo has a caption describing the piece, and the accompanying text (by world-renowned expert and collector, Hans-Jürgen Döpp) discusses the history and development of this important genre.
A note of warning, this book contains explicit sexual imagery, much of it unusual and unconventional, so if you are easily shocked (and don't like being shocked!) then this is not for you. It would make a fine coffee-table book (if there are no children in your household) and an excellent conversation piece if you have open-minded visitors. But most of all, this book is absolutely essential for collectors or connoisseurs of erotica. Your library is incomplete without it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Erotica as art, January 31, 2002
By
This review is from: The Erotic Museum in Berlin (Temporis) (Hardcover)
This is an exellent book if You are interested in erotic art from (mostly) the last century. There are not so many books about the art in erotica. Here You have a chance to see some of the mayor artists work. For example Hans Pellars "Verliebte Flamingo" and Jean Morisots portfolio of 12 prints. I find it a very good reference book for the afficionados and collectors of exclusive erotica. I am looking forward to Mr Döpps next books!
