About the Author

Manfred Baumann, photographer of the famous, was born in Vienna in 1968. His passion for photography began as a child, and he turned professional at 21. Baumann’s grandfather worked for decades as a photographer, and today Manfred sees him as an inspirational figure, especially as he was the one who recognized his grandson’s talent and nurtured it by giving him his first camera.

Talk about a total piece of garbage. This "book" should have been printed on a vanity press and never shown to anyone. It feels like a weak beginners portfolio that just doesn't end. The photos show a lack of technical competency, with many highlights totally blown out. Most of the poses and shots are basically porn and not artful in anyway. The only vaguely interesting shots are the helmet newton rip-offs. There's no appropriate editing, with it being obvious only a few photo sessions were used to make the images used in the book. Instead of following a theme or grouping things, they're put all over in an attempt to make a viewer think they are fresh. He even seems to focus only on the nipples and never on any of the models eyes in his shots. Basically a good example of what a photo book should not be.

This book provokes mixed feeling on me to be honest. On one hand, there is a mastery of lighting and staging that some photographers do not have, but on the other, although Mr. Baumann as at his disposal some of the most beautiful models I have ever seen (and probably some of the most professional) it seems as if his imagination had vanished into thin air. There is not one shot on this book that I could recognize as new, different. He is redoing what has been done a hundred times before. Redoing it well, but redoing nevertheless. That doesn't mean I would not acquire some of his stills if I had a establishment where they were a proper display, but... I still find something important missing.
