In 1992 Madonna would shock the world, yet again, with the Dominatrix Style Song, Erotica. This song is a very good song by Madonna, despite it's controversy.

If you buy this single, you're buying it for the William Orbit mix. It's excellent and features completely different lyrics than the original. It's really not to be missed and is on par with the "Justify My Love" remix he did two years prior to this. The other versions are all basically the same, and don't hit their stride until after the long and clumsy...

In 1992 Madonna would shock the world, yet again, with the Dominatrix Style Song, Erotica. This song is a very good song by Madonna, despite it's controversy.
1. Album Edit: Just what is says.

2. Kenlou B-Boy Mix: This version is okay. I am not too fond of the instruments used. An alternate version of this song, was used on The Girlie Show.

3. WO 12" - The Best mix of Erotica. One thing I love about this version, is that it used the lyrics from the Sex Book song "Erotic". William Orbit's famous beats and tunes fit in perfectly with "Erotica".

4. Underground Club Mix: A Pretty decent version of the song. I do like the hissing at the begining.

5. Masters at Work Dub: Proably the worst version of Erotica. This version was not a great piece of work, it sounds like they made it in 2minutes.

6. Jeep Beats: This version is a really good version, because it included lyrics like "You Thrill Me, You put me in a Trance" these are lyrics from the orginal version of "Erotica" which was titled "You Thrill me".

7. Madonna's in My Jeep Mix: I don't know why this version was even included here, it is almost exactly like the Kenlou B-Boy mix. This song comes in right behind Masters at work dub, being my second least fav. version.

Overall This cd still gets 5/5 Stars

5.0 out of 5 stars great song, excellent remixes, October 21, 2001

Tom (Toronto, Ontario) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Erotica (7 Mixes) (Audio CD)
Although "Erotica" reached number 3 on the Billboard charts, it is probably not remembered as one of Madonna's more beloved singles. That's in part due to the fact that this single was overshadowed by the inept Sex book Madonna released at the time
(when Madonna took it upon herself to be a provacateur) and the critical pounding she took from the book and film, Body of Evidence. Yet Erotica is one of Madonna's best singles. It seems like a retread of Justify My Love, but the song proves darker and much more haunting than that 1990 single. Madonna's seductive yet deep vocals croon over a hypnotic house beat. The remixes of this song are equally good, particularly William Orbit's sensational 12inch mix which uses alternate lyrics for its' source (the lyrics are much more explicit but just as imaginative). Also, the hip-hop remix by Kenlou is equally seductive, while the Masters at Work house mix is perfect for clubs.

This review is from: Erotica (7 Mixes) (Audio CD)
This has got to be one of Madonna's most inspired works. Could anyone else sings this song? Janet? Cher? Whitney? No of course not! Madonna growls and purrs her way through on the most hot and truely erotic songs ever recorded. She begins with a funky beat and lets you know who is in charge!

Lyrics:

"Erotica, romance
Erotica, romance
My name is Dita
I'll be your mistress tonight
I'd like to put you in a trance

If I take you from behind
Push myself into your mind
When you least expect it
Will you try and reject it

If I'm in charge
And I treat you like a child
Will you let yourself go wild
Let my mouth go where it wants to

Give it up, do as I say
Give it up and let me have my way
I'll give you love
I'll hit you like a truck
I'll give you love
I'll teach you how to... aahh

I'd like to put you in a trance
All over

Erotic, erotic
Put your hands all over my body
Erotic, erotic
Put your hands all over my body
Erotic, erotic
Put your hands all over my body
Erotic, erotic

Once you put your hand in the flame
You can never be the same
There's a certain satisfaction
In a little bit of pain

I can see you understand
I can tell that you're the same
If you're afraid, well rise above
I only hurt the ones I love

Give it up, do as I say
Give it up and let me have my way
I'll give you love
I'll hit you like a truck
I'll give you love
I'll teach you how to... aahh

I'd like to put you in a trance
All over

Erotic, erotic
Put your hands all over my body
Erotic, erotic
Put your hands all over my body
Erotic, erotic
Put your hands all over my body
Erotic, erotic

Erotica, romance
I'd like to put you in a trance
Erotica, romance
Put your hands all over my body

I don't think you know what pain is
I don't think you've gone that way
I could bring you so much pleasure
I'll come to you when you say
I know you want me
I'm not gonna hurt you
Just close your eyes

Erotic, erotic
Erotic, erotic
Erotic, erotic
Erotic, erotic
Put your hands all over my body
All over me
All over me

Erotica, romance
I'd like to put you in a trance
Erotica, romance
I like to do a different kind of... aahh

Erotica, romance
I'd like to put you in a trance
Erotica, romance
Put your hands all over my body

Only the one that hurts you
Can make you feel better
Only the one that inflicts the pain
Can take it away

I have followed Madonna's work since Holiday and Borderline. Most of her stuff is marginal at best, however, I respect her work more than most self-proclaimed music critics. Some of her earlier songs that I did like quickly became dated and intolerable to listen to now (the Immaculate Collection era). Then came the Ray of Light. An excellent piece of work in collaboration with William Orbit. This single contains Erotica (WO 12 Inch), which must represent the first meeting of these two minds. I highly recommend this single if you like Ray of Light, the song Erotica, or William Orbit. The WO 12 Inch is well worth the price of this CD,and the other mixes are not without some merit. Beware if buying this CD used: There is an Erotica single with the same cover, which only contains the original version and an instrumental. Make sure you get the one with the "Remixes" on it.

If you buy this single, you're buying it for the William Orbit mix. It's excellent and features completely different lyrics than the original. It's really not to be missed and is on par with the "Justify My Love" remix he did two years prior to this. The other versions are all basically the same, and don't hit their stride until after the long and clumsy hip-hop beat intro that most of them feature. If you saw her Girlie Show performance on HBO or the were at a concert on the tour, the version of Erotica performed there is from this single (it sounded better in concert ironically). On the whole, nothing too great, but again the Orbit mix is fantastic and makes this single more than worth its price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Madonna - Erotica, August 8, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Erotica (7 Mixes) (Audio CD)
This CD single features 7 versions of Madonna's #3 hit Erotica. They are:-

1. Album Edit (4:36). This is just a shorter version of the album version.

2. Kenlou B-Boy Mix (6:28). A nice version of the song. An alternative version was used on the Girlie Show: Live Down Under Tour (1993).

3. WO 12" (6:12). My favourite remix of Erotica! WO means William Orbit. A fantastic remix!

4. Underground Club Mix (4:57). A good remix. I absolutely love the hissing at the beginning of this version!

5. Masters At Work Dub (4:57). Not a bad remix, but not my favourite either. This may be the Maxi's weakest moment.

6. Jeep Beats (5:54). I like this version. They also use words from the original version of Erotica, called You Thrill Me.

7. Madonna's In My Jeep Mix (5:50). A nice closure for the Maxi.

I also recommend the Erotica album (1992). This is a good Maxi. People might think 7 mixes of the same song is too much, but if you're obsessed with the song, this is your moment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably The Sexiest Song Ever Released, June 27, 2003
By
Busy Body (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Erotica (7 Mixes) (Audio CD)
Madonna returned to the music scene in October 1992 with the monster single Erotica - also the first single from her new album of the same name. As with most other Madonna songs, Erotica was an international blockbuster and topped the charts worldwide. The song peaked at No.3 in the UK and spent 8 weeks on the chart, later re-entering the charts for 1 week in January 1993. The song was Madonna's second phase of her shocking sexual assault on the world. Her first was in late 1990 when she stormed the charts with Justify My Love and it's explicit video. The world had two years to cool after this, and it did, only to be outraged once again in October of 1992. Madonna bombarded herself onto the world with a triple whammy of three aspects of the media. Musically, she released her album Erotica which peaked at No.2 in the UK and US, and was panned by critics. Visually, she released her highly criticised erotic film Body Of Evidence which bombed at the Box Office, and there was also the release of her book Sex. The book included many pictures of Madonna in controversial and compromising situations, and sold more than 1 million copies becoming an international bestseller and one of the most sought after books in history.

Erotica begins with a slightly scratchy and muffled beat that lasts around eight seconds, before the deep and dark beat creeps in. The song then begins after seventeen seconds, and Madonna sings twice "Erotica, romance" before starting her first verse with "My name is Dita. I'll be your mistress tonight. I'd like to put you in a trance. If I take you from behind, push myself into your mind when you least expect it, will you try to reject it? If I'm in charge, and I treat you like a child, will you let yourself go wild? Let my mouth go where it wants to..." Madonna's vocals are incredibly sexual in this first verse, almost in a spoken way. She then goes on to sing "Give it up, do as I say. Give it up and let me have my way. I'll give you love, I'll hit you like a truck. I'll give you love, I'll teach you how to....I'd like to put you in a trance...all over," before her vocals rise for the classic chorus where she sings "Erotic, erotic put your hands all over my body" three times. The beat is very confused and smothering at this part, and it only continues to do so as Madonna sings "I don't think you know what pain is. I don't think you've gone that way. I could bring you so much pleasure. I'll come to you when you say. I know you want me. I'm not gonna hurt you! I'd never wanna hurt you, just close your eyes." Madonna then repeats the word "Erotic" over and over, before a mystical and very religious chant over takes adding an even more controversial feel to the song. The song then picks up again as Madonna screams "I like to a different kind of....aaaah!" The song then continues for a while longer with the squeaky beat and the spicy heat of the song. The beat then dies down and Madonna goes "Erotic...a."

The song Erotica is such a sexually-charged anthem that a video to the song was obviously going to be of the same nature. And it was. The video to Erotica was banned from MTV worldwide, and had family groups from around the world up in arms about how far Madonna had gone. The video features Madonna in a dark room with a mask over her eyes, an extended finger nail, a puppet and a long whip as she dressed in bondage gear. Other scenes from the video included Naomi Campbell and Madonna dancing with big men on a beach in sexy positions, and some scenes where men perform acts on Madonna. In comparison to some of the images contained within the Sex book, the final scene of the video that features Madonna hitchhiking nude on a freeway seems downright innocent. All in all, a stunning song. Essential, if not just for the controversy fact.

5.0 out of 5 stars Erotica, July 12, 2004
This review is from: Erotica (7 Mixes) (Audio CD)
Madonna released Erotica, the first single from the album of the same name on October 13, 1992. At first the single was succesful, debuting very high on the charts. But in the end, it's peak was #3 both in the US and in the UK, making it the first lead single from a Madonna album that had failed to hit the top spot. The problem was that both the single and the album were greately overshadowed by her notorious SEX book, as they were released virtually side-by-side. Dissapointing as Erotica is one of Madonna's best songs and the single is great.

There are 7 tracks on the single.

I. Album Edit

This is just what the title says. A shorter opening, where the part where there is only crackling at the start is cut andthen she says "Erotica, Romance" only once. Later the part when she says "Erotic" a couple of times is cut short as is the duration of the arabic voice. The album version is fantastic, even if it's edited. 10/10.

II. Kenlou B-Boy Mix

Here we have a different approach. The music is mostly drums and occasionally there is a piano and other instruments. As we get into the song a voice shouts, and then the music resumes and Madonna starts singing "Erotic Erotic". The she goes with the rest of the lyrics normally. It sounds very good with this kind of background music. You hear her voice better in this version. At the end we hear the music with occasional moans and it ends with her saying "Erotica" and then there is an echo. A spiced up version of this was used on the Girlie Show. 10/10

III. William Orbit 12 Inch

This version stands out from the other mixes by far. The first thing that you will notice are the alternate lyrics, that are very kinky "Bend over baby. I'm gonna make you smile." These lyrics are taken from the song "Erotic". A different version of Erotica that came with copies of the SEX book. This being Orbit, there are a lot of different sounds that pop in during the song. Also the arabian voice has a higher pitch and is in this version a lot. A fan favorite and one of M's best and most unique remixes. 10/10

IV. Underground Club Mix

This mix opens with a sound of steam hissing and Madonna speaking the lyrics. Then the keyboard begins and Madonna continues speaking the lyrics. Then the beats begin and Madonna starts singing "All over" over and over. Then she starts going "All over me". After a while she starts singing "Erotic" repedeately. Then she starts mixing using all of these vocals with some moaning. A good mix, but I would have preffered if the "all over" part was a bit longer. 9/10

V. Masters At Work Dub

This opens with what sounds like 2 men that was heard in the last track. They say "yeyeyeah". Soon Madonna starts singing for a little while and then later she starts going "all over". From there it's basically the same thing with the lyrics as in the last one. The back ground music is a bit different, no keyboards this time and those guys continue going "yeyeyeah". Not one of my favorites, but not worthless. 7/10

VI. Jeep Beats

This one has the music of the Kenlou B-Boy Mix, but the lyrics are done very differently. Madonna's voice pops in and out softly speaking or echoing. Some lyrics you might not recognize like "You thrill me, you put me in a trance". These lyrics are taken from "You Thrill Me", the first version of "Erotica". As the song moves on sometimes the pitch and speed of Madonna's voice change, giving it effects. Not bad at all. 8/10

VII. Madonna's In My Jeep Mix

This is just like the Kenlou B-Boy mix, with minor differences.
Here the song is mainly straightforward, no good wait like in the Kenlou, the ending is also the same, with the words "Erotica" echoing. They should have done something different with this. But it's not as bad as it could have been. 6.5/10

Overall: True, towards the end you can see where things repeat, but the awsome Kenlou B-Boy mix and William Orbit 12", along with an edit of the great album version this single still gets 10/10.

This CD features seven remixes of Madonna's #3 hit "Erotica". The mixes feature different backing tracks and alternate vocals (or no vocals). All the mixes are interesting, some more than others, of course. Some people might think seven versions of the same song is too much, but if you can't get enough of "Erotica", here it is.
