This review is from: Errol Flynn: Satan's Angel (Paperback)
This 'author' claims that Errol had homosexual affiars with every man he met! Convieniently, all quotes regarding Errol's perversions are from long deceased people, thus avoiding any disputes. The book is filled with incorrect facts, too numerous to list. One glaring lie claims that Errol's last word were,"I've had a lot of fun & enjoyed every minute of it." This is a quote Errol made on a TV appearanance-you can hear the recording on several internet sites. Save your money, there's nothing worth reading in this book!

This review is from: Errol Flynn: Satan's Angel (Paperback)
To me, this wasn't much more than an extended Hollywood tabloid. Most of this book recounts "he said, she said" anecdotes rather than documented information from credible sources. I only counted three first-hand quotes from people who would have known the truth. And, all three were well-known for being quite flamboyant, themselves.
There's little doubt Flynn was a bounder who could be as charming as he was hateful. And there are certainly numerous first-hand accounts of his preference for teenage girls (and boys). But, in his own bio, he acknowledges this and offers no apologies for his promiscuity. This book pulls a lot of info from the official biography without expounding upon it. The fact Flynn recognized the difference between good and bad yet often flicked his nose at moral standards, is what makes him such a complex and therefore, interesting personality. I was disappointed Bret didn't offer a more substantiated version of Flynn's life. Flynn was clearly a complex personality with plenty of skeletons in his closet. Its clear the official bio was edited in order to protect powerful/wealthy entertainment families. So, I'd hoped for a more objective account from this author.

This author explored a side of Flynn that hadn't been ventured into before. Bravo, David.

I am a devoted Errol Flynn fan - this book actually showed a side of him that other books hadn't.
