a fine jubilee album, December 24, 2008

There's a lot to this CD that's fun, be it the Sgt. Pepper cover depicting various figures from Köln (Cologne) to the tunes themselves. It starts with a rocking "Et es 20 Johr jenau jetz her" ("It was exactly 20 years ago...It was 20 years ago today...") performed by at least Wolfgang Niedecken, maybe by all of BAP, not sure. A great tribute to the Bläck Fööss as a band, lyrics about being able to introduce the Bläck Fööss is a great honor and it makes him nervous to imagine Köln without them. The CD itself then runs through new recordings of Bläck Fööss hits, cleaned up, sounding sharper than ever, especially "Et Spanien-Leed" and "Huusmeister Kaczmarkek" have a little extra kick to them. Whether you can make out their Kölsch dialect, or even understand German at all, this CD can't help but make you smile.
