Wonderful for our golden retriever mom and puppies.
Coree
The puppies really like it and you can vary the thickness as the puppies get used to eating more than just drinking.

I priced it at the local pet store and it cost much more than this!

We had an orphaned litter of six puppies. Their mom died just two days after they were born. Luckily they got colostrum from her so we didn't have to worry about that. Some other breeders offered to take our pups and try and let them nurse on lactating girls they owned. We just didn't want to give them up. Losing their mom, who was only 4 years old, was a blow. The pups were all we had left of her, so we tube fed them, and when they got bigger, stronger and better at suckling, we bottle fed them. We've successfully weaned them off of the formula which seemed to give them everything they needed to flourish. They grew and matured at the same rate as pups from other litters we've had in the past. So, I would recommend this product without hesitation. It worked for us in the most dire of situations, and our puppies have matured beautifully.

This is the product I was advised to use to feed a baby squirrel my cat brought home.

It works great. Squirrel is putting on weight.

I volunteer as a midwoof :) for a rescue organization and this comes in handy quite frequently. The cans sold at pet supply stores are SO expensive and since I'm buying as a volunteer that fosters mama's & pups, the size and price is wonderful!

There's absolutely nothing better than this for nursing infant squirrels. Shake well inside separate container with lid to dissolve formula mix and keep whole Esbilac container and mixed formula refrigerated after opening. Be sure to warm to slightly above room temperature (8 secs in microwave worked well for me) at feeding time. Don't mix up more than a one or two day batch to avoid spoilage. The included measuring cup comes in handy.

Apparently, some disgruntled workers or rehabilitators did not like that the formula was changed and have gone on a smear campaign against Esbilac made by Pet-AG. They claim the FDA found this or that and that it was recalled etc... There is only a few sites which mention this and all the posts are done by anonymous people and they cite no sources or provide accurate facts.

I called the FDA and they informed me they never opened any investigation against Pet-AG or Esbilac and that there was never any recall. I don't know what some people's intentions are when they spout this nonsense about it killing puppies or whatnot. Esbilac has been around for MANY YEARS. It is tried and true and every major pet store carries it and it is the number 1 selling milk replacer. Furthermore, even if you go on Pet-AG's site, they tell you that they have never had any products recalled and are being targeted on the internet by some small fringe activists. It's sad that they are trying to ruin a small company that provides a solid milk replacer meant to nurse pets.

Back to the formula, it works great. I have nursed two pups using their formula and they grew up to be super healthy and strong. If your pup is rejected too early by it's mother, this is perfect for you to substitute with. I sometimes even gave my weaned puppy some of this and he lapped it up. It is also good for people who want to nurse other animals besides dogs.

Please double-check if you are still cautious. The FDA never recalled it, and Esbilac is sold in every major pet-store and people who have used it, heap praise on it.

I used this to supplement our border collie puppies since mom had SEVEN! The pups (and mom) looked fantastic throughout the whole thing as an end result! When weaning time was coming close, we would use this instead of water to make a "cereal" of the puppy food and get them used to eating kibble. They would clean their plates every time!

Pros:
-Happy, healthy puppies and mom
-Good weight gain
-Easy transition to kibble

Cons:
-NONE!

I absolutely recommend this to everyone to have on hand when whelping a litter, and it was cheaper on Amazon than at our local feed store!

I went to Petco to buy the formula when my Yellow had her litter. I got a wild hair and thought about purchasing on line. I was originally buying the 12 oz. and 28 oz. cans of powder. I would buy everything on the shelf with a bill running between 172.94 and 192.11 a purchase to feed 11 puppies. I asked at several other Pet stores and was told only the 28 oz. was the biggest can made. Well I can say that the 5 lbs bucket will save my wallet. Its cheaper and more for my money. Feeding 11 Lab puppies 4 times a day we go through 1 28 oz. can. Lets see them go through this 5 lbs bucket. THANK YOU AMAZON!!!!!!!!!!

Esbilac is the leading replacer. I breed and have tube/bottle fed for years. I know the pup is getting complete nutrition with Esbilac. If using the powder, shake very well and let sit for the "foam" to go down. Use a strainer to get out lumps and dissolve them back into the formula. Make sure you take frequent breaks! Pup needs to get a feeling of full. He will continue to eat because he needs to suck. That can lead to overfeeding/gas/vomiting and discomfort. Also the breaks allow him to breath so he will not suck milk into the lungs. Happy feeding!!
