5.0 out of 5 stars It's a DRAMA cd, not a soundtrack.
This is a DRAMA CD, not a sountrack CD.

That's the most important thing you should know about this CD. If you're expecting the magical sounds of Yoko Kanno and Hajime Mizoguchi's brilliant music, it's there, but in the background over the actors speaking.

If you don't speak Japanese, you probably won't enjoy it, as it would be like watching a subtitled anime with no...

3.0 out of 5 stars This is a Vocal Drama CD, not a Soundtrack
While I would agree with Peter that Escaflowne has stunningly beautiful music, I have to believe he was reviewing something other than this particular CD. WARNING: This is a VOCAL DRAMA presentation, not a sountrack; if you're not fluent in Japanese, you'll get little out of this!

For what it is, however, it's rather well done.

If you don't speak Japanese, you probably won't enjoy it, as it would be like watching a subtitled anime with no picture (and therefore no subtitles).

The voice acting is done well, and it does a great job of capturing the feel of Escaflowne without any visuals. Definitely recommended to the fans who speak Japanese, but it's certainly not for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious, elaborate, outstanding techniques and quailty, January 8, 2001

This is not your conventional anime soundtrack. Escaflowne is intensed, full of mistique and surprises . Elaborate performance delivered by Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the finest orchestra in the world. The conducting by Anthony Inglis is precise, clean ,vivid and charming. Some of the pieces, Dance of Curse and Escaflowne, often reminds me of Gregorian Chant, beautiful yet meditational. Warsaw Chorous delivers glorious performance, giving much texture to Escaflowne's misterious fantasy world. This soundtrack has soft, romantic beautiful celebrating music, also carries meditating, glorious, exciting battle music. There is something beautiful for everyone.
