Very nice, but not perfect...,

This review is from: Escali L600 L-Series Professional Lab Scale (Kitchen)
For what it's worth: This scale does a great job of doing exactly what it advertises: measuring the weight of small items within an accuracy of 0.1g (0.01 lbs). For that, it should get 5 stars. However, for some reason, it will not register really small weights (under 0.5g). For example, if you put 0.2g of salt on the scale, it will read 0.0g. Even if you continue to add salt, it will continue to read 0.0g until you get to 0.5g of salt at which point the scale will suddenly read 0.5g. From then on, it will accurately increase the displayed number as you continue to add weight.
Interestingly, this lack of display seems to be intention (that is, not a problem with the sensor detecting very small weights). For example, if you place a 53.6g cup on the scale and then add 0.2g of salt, the scale will correctly read 53.8g. However, if you instead place that same cup on the scale and tare it to 0.0g, then add 0.2g of salt, you will see 0.0g on the screen! This will continue until you add a total of at least 0.5g of salt, just like before. So in summary, the scale is quite accurate, but you can't rely on it if the weight to be measured is very small and/or you have tared the scale such that the weight difference to be displayed is very small. Keep in mind that you can still measure really small weights by not taring and doing some math, although that is slightly annoying, hence the 4 stars.

This scale is pretty much perfect for what I need. I bought the scale to measure coffee for espresso shots as I want to get precise gram measurements. Having the 1/10 gram precision means that I know that I can reliably repeat the weight and not be off by 1-2 grams as I would if the precision was only in whole grams.
Incidentally, my daughter said that it is exactly the scales that she uses in her high school science class. The "tare" feature is perfect as I can use any container with the scale. Also, if you turn on the scale with a container already on it, the scale sets to zero. This is a small thing, but it makes measuring even simpler. The design of the scale is simple and the quality seems good, especially for the money.

Scale for Building Stop Motion Puppets,

I needed this scale to measure silicone and resin for molding the skeletal parts for my stop motion puppets. I have since covered the thing in these materials so it looks beat up from just a little use. However, it has served it's purpose. My only complaint would be that sometimes it doesn't like to register small amounts of the materials I'm weighing until I let it sit for a moment or two. But it's a good product.

This portable scale continues to function well and serve its purpose. Unfortunately it is not rated for commerce, so one cannot officially use it to weigh items for sale or purchase. But it is effective for doing "quick checks" and researching actual versus published weights of items. Good weight range and multiple units of measure makes this tool very helpful. Trade off is its small size, but it handles the majority of tasks.

After a good deal of research, and after returning a competing product that seemed like a toy compared to this scale, I found the Escali L600 at Amazon for two-thirds the price asked elsewhere.
PROS: -- Solid construction -- easy to use -- highly accurate, -- performs exactly as advertised -- good price CONS: -- Might be a bit bulky for some users; -- 9-volt AC adapter recommended by Escali may be incorrect for this scale, which uses four 1.5 volt batteries totallng 6 volts, not 9 volts

Bought the scale to weigh chemicals. It is fast, stable, and has a nice tare feature along with being able to report item counts. But be aware, it needs a 100g weight for calibration. Amazon defaults to a 50g weight recommendation incorrectly. However even without calibrating it, the 50g weight came in at 50.07g.

Great product. This little guy is accurate and very easy to use.
We have a couple larger scales for heavier items and we use this one for counting / inventory purposes and have had no problems. Highly recommended.

This accurate scale is useful for many things. I use it for cooking, arts and crafts and home projects. Measures from 600 down to 0.1 gram - also can measure in ounces, easily tares out for adding ingredients. Backlit and easy to read screen with a fairly large weighing surface for bulky bowls or paint cans. Runs on batteries but I recommend the 9-volt adapter for those times you can plug it in. Have bought several scales over the years and so far this one seems the most versatile and useful for the price.

The scale works fine but what nobody tells you before you buy it, is that if you want to calibrate it you have to have a 500g weight. If you try it with any another calibration weight, the scale will not give you the correct weight until you have recalibrated it with the proper weight.

This is a good scale. However, the first one that was sent to me was defective. The digital display was not functioning properly. Sent it back to Amazon for a replacement. The replacement arrived the next day. YOU have to love Amazons great customer service! One thing to keep in mind with this scale is the calibration weight required is a 500 gram calibration weight. Older models of this scale (prior to 2011) used a 400 gram calibration weight. |
