Ever since 2004's 4th Dimensional rocketships going up Gab (Tim Parker)has went for a more futuristic sound. Whatever you want to call it,underground, experimental, alternative,or space hop this music shines over all mainstream spoon-fed garbage. This Album is tight.Favorite tracks so far,Escape 2 Mars,Rhyme Travel,Light years,Somathapeople, and Dreamin'(feat.Del and Brother Ali) Don't forget to check out "Dropping Science Fiction" with his new group "The Mighty Underdogs"

I love gift of gab and this is one of the best albums hes put out since the blackalicious stuff. I didn't like is recent work as much but it is still better quality hip hop than most stuff out there. This album is awesome.

at first I thought this album would be great coming from the guy who just did fourth dimensional rocketships going up and at first i liked it but then i realized that although there where some pretty good songs on it there were a few terrible ones too. Spotlight, Electric Waterfalls, In Las Vegas, and the other version of Dreamin quickly became hard to listen to. So if your trying to decide between Escape 2 Mars and Fourth Dimensional Rocketships Going Up than you defiantly should get Fourth Dimensional Rocketships Going Up.

Anyone who is a fan of Gift of Gab/Blackalicious will not be disappointed. Also if you are a fan of socially, universal or mind-conscious hip-hop or music in general. Be prepared to bend your ears, because, he is one of the best wordsmiths out there. It is not for the weak of mind.

The post office lost the first copy I ordered but Amazon made it all better by replacing it for free with over night shipping through ups. This album is SICK. Track 3 is now one of my favorite jams of all time! If you like your hip hop to have meaning behind the lyrics the Gift of Gab is a great place to start. Buy it!

4th Dimensional Turds Going Down,

If no one else is gonna say it, I must: "This one's a Space Turd!"
Gift Of Gab, creator of past classics, "4th Dimensional Rocketships Going Up" and the Blackalicious albums, has molded a funkless mishmash of spacey dance-pop punctuated with dumb afrocentric pseudo-spiritual mythology and over-accelerated, rhythm-deficient rhymes. A couple cuts are decent enough, but the rest serve only to charm my finger into pushing the eject button. Should have been titled: "4th Dimensional Turds Going Down." As in down the toilet bowl. Skip it.

Gab has delved deeper into the topics that he alludes to on so many projects before: then, they sounded kind of interesting and cool (this cat is mentioning spirituality, soul-evolutions, and overcoming adversities, et cetera); now, he's obviously had some recent life-changing experiences, as is evidenced by the "green-lean" of this offering. That's not a flaw, it's no criticism, because the message is no less important for the heads out in the hip-hop community. In fact, it is potentially more applicable to us (the inheritors and creators of the most profound lyrical music on the planet), due to rhythm and pattern being an intricate part of what we do, and that places us in the same mode as early man to the surrounding environs and climes. There is a planetary consciousness that can be tapped and harnessed for artistic purposes, the results of which can inspire still others to contact that same consciousness and do likewise, ad infinitum (see tracks 6-9, and 11). Certain exigencies exist in our biosphere, and the loose narrative of this album gives us a peek as to how Gab is dealing with the world that we all inhabit--although an "Escape 2 Mars" on occasion (and under the right conditions) to clear the thoughts and gain perspective is not a bad idea. When an emcee evolves, for their personal sake, their art's sake, and their audiences' sake, who could fault them for that? Gab first came to my attention with Nia, and so far as I'm concerned, he's still got one. This is a sleeper folks, it even slipped past my radar. Wake up, and keep traveling.
