Very good story of the true events of the captain and crew during WWII. Their submarine is sunk and what follows is the story of survival that only starts as the boat hits bottom. Brings to light some of the terrible things the service people endure for our freedom.

I found this book a great and easy read. The author took me right into the action and the drama which was the USS Tangs last patrol. As a WWII submarine enthusiast I found this book ticked all the boxes.

Alex Kershaw is an extroidnary writer. His research is extensive and factual.Escape From the Deep, as well as any book by Mr.Kershaw is a must read. His writing style brings you into the story and you become drawn in to the people and circumstancesyou are reading about.

A vivid and accurate re-telling of Captain Richard O'Kane's WW II legacy that brings the reader into an ever increasing awareness of the brutalities of both the Submariners life in combat and the after capture existence as a POW by the Japanese.
This one should be read by anyone interested in Submarine warfare and tactics. That period in our heritage is one of intense and unimaginable suffering. War is certainly an ugly part of the twentieth century and doesn't seem to be going away. Our awareness of this cannot be overstated. For that it rates my five stars.

Escape From the Deep is beautifuly written as Kershaw gives you a glimse into the last days of the Tang and the fight of its crew! A must read for all!

Great read, wonderful reminder of sacrifice and courage. Highly recommend for history and adventure fans alike.

I have visited one of the men in this book. He is living in Oregon in an assisted living. I am going to try to find a hardcover so I can have him sign it personally. Great book for anyone that has served in the armed forces!
