A important book that documents the fall of Detroit and the Demographic underpinnings of its demise. This book shocks the reader with quotes and statistics that illustrate the horror people experience daily with the "Black Undertow".

It is the story of one of the most powerful and beautiful cities in the Country driven to the bottom of the barrel. Paul Kersey lays out the case that a city is not a function of its buildings or its location or even its politics, but its people. When a upward and far thinking people are replaced by a low I.Q. criminal people, the City becomes a horror show. The essays will open many an eye, such as the fact that even in the 50's when the city was only a small percent black, blacks accounted for 65% of the crime. Even our grandfathers and great-grandfathers were unable to deal with black crime. After the 1967 riots, the city of Detroit's fate was sealed, as Whites fled and black mayors set up what even the Detroit press calls an "African Potentate". No other city in the world, except perhaps Rome, has crashed so utterly; solely a function of Demographic shift. Loaded with articles and quotes, this book links the key causes of Detroit's utter ruin. It is not "Liberalism" or "Racism" but the people who inhabit a city that make or remake its face. The "Paris of the West", the "Arsenal of Democracy" is no more and never will be again and here is the "Why".

There is plenty to criticize about this e-book, as other reviewers have pointed out. Most of the "chapters" seem to be web articles that have been put in this book form. Lots of repetition and a decided lack of continuity. And the errors in grammatical structure throughout the book are just unacceptable. Misspellings, words omitted, it just gets annoying to read. The author needs a proofreader/editor for sure.

But putting all that aside, Kersey continuously advances a couple of propositions throughout the book. One is that black people are, as a group, incapable of governing themselves with any effectiveness. And from this theory comes the assertion that any city that becomes predominantly black is doomed to fail. For evidence he offers statistics and stories (heavily footnoted) from numerous cities, mostly Detroit of course, which he cites as the worst but by no means only example of urban decay. Is he right? Sadly, I think he is. But read the book and decide for yourself.

Kersey's message is quite simple. He says that the destruction of Detroit has been caused by race. He doesn't then explain away everything as just a problem of education. He doesn't assert that underneath it's really the white man's fault. He doesn't interpret it all as a tragedy that has victimized black people. He says it is just what it appears to be - the destruction of a city built by white people when the population changed in its composition.

Kersey is just telling the truth as he sees it. Surprisingly that is not a valued approach. The preferred approach is to discuss a problem that looks like it comes from bad black behavior and explain how that that is an illusion - that it is really the white man's behavior. This switcheroo is very valued by the liberal press and the PC intelligentsia. It is considered an important and noble skill to be able to attribute bad black behavior to whites. Alas Kersey doesn't have this skill. If he sees a mob of black teens assaulting a lone white woman he will attribute it to the character (or lack thereof) of the blacks not some distant effect of white racism from the past.

There is a lot of money in the excusing black crime business. White people enjoy feeling that they - like Michael Jackson in his music video - are "Bad". They like to attribute every storm to "global warming". They like to attribute every rape by a black thug to "the legacy of slavery". Kersey justs reports bad black behavior as bad black behavior.

Let's understand Kersey's insight. Most newspapers won't mention race for the more brutal crimes. They want to hide the fact that 13% of the population (blacks) causes most of the murders and rapes. Blacks commit well over seven times as many violent crimes per capita as whites. And they tend to be the most nasty and brutal of the violent crimes. The fact that a sliver of the whole population is responsible for most of the worst crime is covered up. The mass media lie to the public by concealing parts of the truth. They promote an agenda in which race isn't important. But it is important and the public increasingly knows it.

What is a rational response to blacks moving into your neighborhood? The PC liberal answer is to do nothing. Just wait while the blacks with more and better education become more civilized. But of course that's nonsense. Education hasn't helped. Blacks are relatively immune to education. The rational response to blacks in your neighborhood is flight. Those who ran first did best. Those who tarried got caught in a cesspool - like downtown Detroit.

Kersey is of course a racist. That wouldn't bother anyone if he were a black racist like Al Sharpton or a Hispanic racist like Villarosa. But Kersey is a white racist and must be therefore opposed and discounted.

There are many books available on Amazon that deal with the crumbling of Detroit, many of them are just picture books that display the ruins. Several others spin elaborate theories about how some outside force or some unexpected consequence of the white power structure brought down the city. But the simple truth is that no American city has been able to withstand the change from a predominately white population to a predominately black one without massive consequences. That's the truth and you know it.

As a book, this one isn't very well written or edited. I think this is an early effort. I expect his subsequent books to be more polished.

At the risk (of which I am not afraid) of being labeled "racist" I highly recommend this and the author's book about Atlanta. In Jacksonville Fl. the same is beginning to happen. A black sheriff elected and crime rates along with rampant police corruption was the result. Since his departure, crime has dropped significantly, police integrity has returned, and all this has been done on a lower budget with less manpower. Now a black mayor has been elected and the result? A tuberculosiis outbreak among the homeless (they have been flocking here as more and more tax revenue goes to entitlement programs), police budgets and manpower cuts, ect. Now, the current mayor is trying to turn this fair city into a "professional sports" town, this he considers important while he ignores the ever increasing gang activity. All the gains made by past mayors in reclaiming historic areas for families... he has allowed to turn back to trash filled, grafitti blemished, crime ridden ghettoes. Why do I mention this in a book review? Because the author amd the books he has written are a warning to any city that elects officials based on liberal policy and skin color (any skin color) It is a warning to heed.

Very good book! I wonder how long it will take to get this book banned simply because it is not politically correct when talking about Detroit or other black cities in the US. Funny how they want to ban "racist books" here when they are written by whites and are pro-white/anti-political correctness, yet they have no problem with the assortment of black books, hispanic books, native american books, women's books, etc. All of white rip on white males. Complete hypocrisy. It's becoming very clear that the word "racist" is a slur used against whites.

Don't forget East Saint Louis. That black ghetto hellhole makes Detroit look good. Please note that not one of the liberal worthless white criminal apologists would be living in Ghetto Detroit. The formula is always the same: Take a nice white town, stack it with blacks, and turn the government over to black politicians and judges and in ten years you will have Detroit. After another 10 years and you look like Stalingrad in 1944.Now Hud wants to take the ghetto rats and start spreading them through every decent neighborhood left in America. Of course the stupid whites will be financing their new neighbors.Ha,Ha.have a nice day America and don't forget to vote Obama.

Be prepared for pushback when and if you decide to recommend this book (or Mr. Kersey's website, below) to your family and friends; because this time the Truth actually IS "racist."

The author boldly goes where few have dared to go before: writing a heavily-footnoted, straightforward critique of what he terms BRA or B(lack) R(un) A(merica). This volume in his single-city series of books documents the precipitous decline of Detroit, from "The Paris of the West" to a place where wild animals roam some of the more desolate areas. While covering the last 100 years, "Escape..." touches only briefly on the period prior to the city's watershed moment, the Riots of 1967, given its primary goal is to illustrate the destruction begun then, and wreaked thereafter by Black "leadership" in all corridors of City government.

If you choose to read front-to-back, note that the "chapters" are (I believe) articles taken directly from Mr. Kersey's website ([...] This is to say be prepared to read about certain events/themes/personalities-and-their-shenanigans MULTIPLE TIMES. (I consider it like school: remember repeating those blasted times' tables to learn them?)

While I could point out numerous glitches in Editing or Layout, I cannot dissuade an HONEST seeker of the Truth from buying and reading this or any of Kersey's other books. The information just doesn't exist in such a condensed form anywhere that I've found.

Having traveled the world, everything I've seen with my own eyes supports the arguments put forth in the book. If you deal in facts (and not opinion) then you'll have to agree that the author makes some great points. I would have given it 5 stars because of the astonishingly courageous honesty shown by the author, but the book really needs to be edited.

Paul, please get this edited and put out an updated version. This book NEEDS to be read by more people.

I had the misfortune of meeting the former Chief of Police and MFIC Coleman Young just before I left for Los Angeles.
I knew then in 1991 that the city was doomed. Two cars were stolen, I was mugged in Blockbuster. Hoping to get some insight on "white flight" I bought the book.

There is a lot of repetition and typing errors in the book. I find the constant use of acronyms annoying.

But, property values don't lie.

I grew up next to Detroit and lived there for 10 years. The book actually gives detroit a nice view compared to reality. Nevertheless, for all of you Leninist cheerleading useful idiots ( professors, teachers, unionists and Obama voters) show me one city that is Black that is not a rathole anywhere in the world,,,,Detroit is nothing unusual.
