I love this book!

I read the original text years ago and cannot wait to get my hands on this new edition.

The story will be shown on National Geographic's Locked up Abroad on May 23rd.

The story was amazing and believable. I like the narrative and fast paced story line.
His ordeals both positive and negative really painted a clear picture of a Mexican prison

WOW!! I literally could not put this down and read it in one day. What a story. It ends rather abruptly... I would love to have read about how he settled back into life in the US and found work etc. But I guess that isn't what the book is about.

Honestly, get this book. You will be riveted, as was I.

Warning: There is a LOT of swearing in the book... not something I particularly enjoy at all but it is a raw and honest accounting so I didn't mind so much.

I enjoyed this book. I've been to many of the places that are mentioned, and I found the story hit home for me. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. This would make a great movie as well

I watched Dwight's story on an episode of Locked-up Abroad, so I had to read the book! I was amazed and touched! The courage and strength he and his wife had is an inspiration. Love DOES really conquer all!

I am a friend of Dwight Worker and read his previous book "Escape" that is currently out-of-print. This is a much better and more well put together version. A riveting story of love, deception, imprisonment and escape. It would make a great story if it weren't true but the fact that it IS a true story makes it all the more tantalizing. National Geographic recently featured this on "Locked Up Abroad" as the Black Palace of Horrors (Watch it on Youtube: [...] ) and the book is even more engaging.

I actually know the author of this book, Dwight Worker. It was several years after I met him before I read a copy of his original version of this book, Escape. The story was riveting, and I found the book very well-written - it alternated voices as Barbara and Dwight told their portions of their experiences.

I looked forward to this new version, and the book does not disappoint. After so many years, Dwight didn't have to protect friends and the innocent in Mexico anymore, so he's revealed more details on the intricate escape plan Barbara devised and how they carried it out. There's more stories here too of the squalor and violence of his life in the prison - harrowing descriptions told in his matter-of-fact tone. And his personality shines through - the true freedom-lover, FU-you-can't-crush-my-spirit, and the man who finds a way to get things done, no matter what.

Barabara's sections are alive too with her hope, her love for this man who captivated her in a just one short meeting, and her anxious trips into the prison to visit him and carry out their plan - always afraid of discovery and the threat of her own arrest.

If you read the original book, you will find new material that brings the story even more alive. If you are new to the saga of Dwight Worker in Lecumberri, you have a treat in store!
