5.0 out of 5 stars Another great series by Paulsen!, August 22, 2000
By A Customer
Fire Mountain, one in a series of about ten adventure books by Paulsen, is a great way to attract younger and at-risk readers. Each comes with a section at the end on how to survive the situation described in the book (fire, rock climbing, hypothermia etc.) I would definitely recommend this.

A Kid's Review
Escape from Fire Mountain
...Date Reviewed 9/24/02

The book is called Escape from Fire Mountain and the setting is in a mountainous place. I picked this book because it was very interesting and fun to read. This book is about a girl named Nikki who hears cries for help on a special radio but doesnt hear anyone responding. Nikki then decides to try and help what seems to be 2 kids trapped by smoke and flames. Flames arent the only problem; there are also poachers that have no hesitation of killing them. So all through the rest of the book they are all just trying to out run the poachers. The characters in the story are Nikki, Joe, and Mary. This book teaches us that no matter what kind of trouble someone is in you always try and help them in any situation.

One of my most favorite events in the story is when all the kids were captured Nikki was forced to make a plan to get out of a tent. First she took a key and cut out a hole in the tent to get out. Then she took out all of the bullets out of their guns and then took the keys out of the truck and then through them in the woods. Then they made a run for Nikkis house to take cover. The one quote that I liked the best was when Nikki said to the kids dont worry; well get out of this because it made the kids feel a lot better. The characters that I didnt like were the poachers because the poachers want to kill Joe and Mary.

I like the book because of the way it keeps flowing very nicely, like it doesnt quick change to something different. Im not quite sure what kind of person would like the book, but I am sure that kids within the age of like 10 and like 13 would like the book because of the way it reflects on every day life. I would recommend this book to a classmate because I liked the book and I think that they would to. I think that this book is important to read because it proves that kids can make a difference in the world to, not just adults.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wesley's review, February 11, 2005
A Kid's Review
Nikki's mom and dad left to go to town which was very far away. She was home alone for a long time. One day she took a horse ride to a field to look at the rams. Then she heard a gun shot and saw one of the rams fall dead, the poachers came up, got the ram's head and left not knowing they had been watched. She tried to call the sheriff on the C.B. raido. She didnt reach him, but instead heard a little boy crying for help. She went down stream to where boy had described. She found him and his little sister who had a borken leg from the fall. Then the poachers found them and were going to kill them, but she got out of the poacher's tent and messed up their gun and took their only four wheeler.
But you have to be careful you never know what could hapopen next.........
