If you're a fan of soundtracks driven by haunting tunes from electronic synthesizers, this one belongs in your CD collection. Very reminiscent of early Tangerine Dream soundtrack cuts (like the sexy train sequence in "Risky Business") that were typical from 1980 to 1986. Afficiados refer to this period as the "Virgin Years", and it is a by-gone era. You rarely hear this kind of music anymore -- although bits and pieces have been picked up and integrated into a newer musical form called "Trance." Composed by John Carpenter, my favorite on this CD is the Main Theme, followed by the entrance by the Duke. Greg Caton Lake Charles, LA caton@ifu.net July 20, 1999

This score is a Carpenter classic., January 8, 2002
This review is from: Escape From New York: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
After his famous Halloween theme, this score for his cult classic sci-fi actioner is probably Carpenter's best work. The now famous main title theme is terrific in and of itself, but The Duke Arrives and Police State/Romero and the President are just as strong. Carpenter fans, or just those who like quality synth tunes, will need no encouraging to buy this. Few composers know how to use the synthizer to its full effect, John Carpenter is at the very top of that short list. An essential for any Carpenter addict.

escape from new york one of carpenter's finest, September 15, 2001
This review is from: Escape From New York: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I really love this reissue, I have the Dagored vinyl reissue released in 2000. First this is a must for musicians that collect vintage synths and drum machines, I recognize some of the sounds from early 80's synths I have. Carpenter has taken soundtrack music to a new level and the fruits are represented on this record better than any other I feel. If you can find this issue of the vinyl it comes highly recommended. I think the record sounds much better than the reissue CD. Not to mention it comes with a full color movie poster of the Italian cut of the film "1997:Fuga Da New York". I think that in the near future people like John Carpenter and the Italian band Goblin will get their due as trailblazers of electronic music and soundtracks. "You Are The Duke!" Donald Pleasence

Its a good movie, and soundtrack, October 8, 1998

I liked the movie a lot. The problem was that there wasnt enough technology for the movie to be recognized. I loved the music. It was the best part. Especially the main theme. It is one of my favorite tunes. Escape from LA was just a cheap rip off of the first. The Songs on the soundtrack may be a little outdated but the main theme is such a good song. MAIN THEME! If you like 80's stuff get this.

Love it and still have the LP, June 1, 1999

This is a really fantastic soundtrack. I bought it when the movie first came out. Especially the main title theme. It's my special song like Ally McBeal has her special song. "Duke Arrives" is pure edge of the seventies funk. It all blends in with the classical tracks.
