5.0 out of 5 stars Contentment comes from within. March 18, 2014
I have read all of this authors' eBooks, and I think this one may be his best. Perhaps this is his Magnum Opus. He advances the idea that one must change one's inner reality to escape the rat race. This idea was first advanced by the Buddhist and Stoic philosophers.
I particularly like what the author had to say about actively and passively using one's free time. Before, I was essentially using my free time in pursuits that I would consider mindless self-indulgence, i.e., netflix, tv, passively reading articles. Now, I am actively participating in mass media. I am writing reviews for the books I read, and trying to contribute comments to articles when I have something new or interesting to say. The author says that only something like 1 to 2% of people who visit websites actively contribute to content. Now, I am happily in that 1 to 2%.
I enjoyed what the author said about meditation and mindfulness. I am practicing meditation nearly daily now, and trying to live in the present, rather than constantly fretting over the future or the past. Perhaps the best advice the author advances, is the importance of goals. Goals that are intrinsically rewarding. My life has become infinitely better ever since I started making intrinsically rewarding goals. I plan on starting a blog, and possibly writing an ebook. See the authors' other works to see how to do these things.
I would highly recommend this eBook to everyone still caught in the rat race, which is the vast majority of the population. Even if one cannot quit one's job, they can benefit from the suggestions offered in this book.
