5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner!!, January 7, 2009
By

This review is from: Escape (Paperback)
I loved Escape. Rye James did a great job writing dialogue & plot so that I didn't want to put this down. It wasn't hard to forget about time while you are sitting & reading this action filled suspense story. I enjoyed rooting for the main character & James did a nice job introducing supplementary characters. I recommend this novel to anyone who wants to read an action/suspense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Filled with suspense......, November 12, 2010

There was a lot to like about this story. It was filled with suspense with quite a bit of action. I liked the main character, Ray, and his friend, Samantha. I also liked the banter among the FBI agents and the way they did not jump to conclusions about Ray immediately. There were some Kindle formatting issues and much of the plot was unbelievable. But I kept telling myself that this is fiction, and once I stopped concentrating on what was not believable, I was able to enjoy the book and the main premise of the plot. Overall, I liked it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Haven't finished it yet, but..., March 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Escape (Kindle Edition)
I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get through this novel. The storyline is one of my favorites, but the writing is painfully juvenile. I'm not very far into the book; however, in my experience, writing style generally does not improve as the pages are turned. Good writing should have a pleasant rhythm. In this novel, the author's writing lacks fluidity more than anything.

Shortly into the novel, I noticed a glaring grammatical error that made me roll my eyes and turn off my Kindle in disgust. In all fairness, the error occurred within dialogue, so perhaps it was intentional to establish a character's particular voice.

I will say that the storyline gained my attention immediately. From almost the first page, my pulse quickened. I absolutely adore thrillers featuring an innocent person on the run, trying to stay a step ahead of some evil force. The author certainly wasted no time getting to the action. For that reason only, I will put forth my best effort to finish this book.

If grammar and writing style are important to you, I don't recommend this book. If those things are of little significance to you, and if you like this type of story, then give this book a try.

I gave it a 3-star review, but I feel 2 1/2 stars would better represent my opinion.

March 28, 2011 Update - I finished it out of sheer determination. This book was quite possibly the most poorly written novel I have ever read. The grammar was terrible, the sentence structure and dialogue were juvenile, and the plot had no depth whatsoever.

I changed my rating to 1 star.
