More About the Author

Emma Calin was born in London in 1962. She currently lives in France and the UK.

She has been writing since childhood and has won numerous local, national and international prizes for poetry and short stories.

Emma currently writes action romance novels and gritty short stories in digital e-book, paperback and audio book formats. She has recently announced a series of illustrated children's modern-day fairy tales - the 'Once Upon a NOW' series, which includes 'ALF THE WORKSHOP DOG', 'ISABELLA'S PINK BICYCLE' and 'KOOL KID KRUNCHA AND THE HIGH TRAPEZE'.

'PASSION PATROL 1' is the first in Emma's 'Passion Patrol' series. A steamy love story set against a backdrop of international gambling corruption and deception. Interpol cop Anna Leyton finds herself torn between love and duty when her professional and private life intersects. Two video teasers for this book are available in the right hand column of this author page, below the blog. This story is now available in Kindle format as 'PASSION PATROL 1' and in paperback under it's former title of 'Knockout'.

'PASSION PATROL 2' is the second stand-alone novel following the 'Passion Patrol' theme of hot cops, hot crime and hot romance. Shannon Aguerri is a witty but feisty inner-city wild-child cop, brought up on the wrong side of the tracks. Her unconventional methods and quick wit bring her success - but not without upsetting the bosses, who move her out to a rural patrol beat. She rapidly discovers there's more going on in this sleepy village than meets the eye. The son of a local aristocrat arouses suspicion of drug crime activity - but his widower father arouses more animal instincts! Their social differences mean nothing to their passion and need. Already in the mix is an upper class female rival - who has long plotted her way into the Earl's bed. The jealousy is an evil shade of green and the anger is a violent scarlet. Could she really mix with the British royal family? Can she risk her heart and career on yet another high risk unauthorised investigation? Can she get justice for an innocent boy? Dare a kid from the gutter dream of being a countess?

'COP'S KITCHEN' a companion cook book to 'PASSION PATROL 2' - read the romance, feel the passion TASTE the love. Emma Calin provides photos and recipes for all the meals shared in the story. Food ranging from items for a buffet luncheon in the marquee at the local manor house, for an intimate breakfast for two or for a traditional British fish and chip dinner.

The 'LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE COLLECTION' - a complete 'boxed set' of 5 gritty hard-hitting novelettes and short stories which explore the human quest for love, compassion and survival. Available in July 2013 in print, digital e-book and audiobook formats.

'SUB-PRIME' is a prize-winning hard hitting short story about courage, exploitation and love. It is a raw and brutal exposé of life at the bottom in the aftermath of recession. Available in e-book formats for Kindle and Kindle Reader Apps. This is the first in Emma Calin's novelette and short story series and is available as a single title or in the 'LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE COLLECTION'.

'THE CHOSEN' - the second publication in the 'LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE COLLECTION' - is a short story set in modern times where working people struggle to keep their dreams alive. A world where the promise of love motivates desperate measures. Available as a single title in e-book format for Kindle and Kindle Reader Apps, or as part of the collection.

'ESCAPE TO LOVE' is a novelette set in an urban landscape, the third in Emma's 'LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE COLLECTION'. A mother and her autistic daughter are trying to start a new life. They have escaped an abusive relationship only to now find themselves tangled in further drama and controversy. Can she trust her instincts and make the right choices for her child? Their future depends on it. Available as a single title in e-book format for Kindle and Kindle Reader Apps.

'ANGELA' is a very short story of a late night taxi ride where the final passenger may not be all that she seems. The fourth story in the 'LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE COLLECTION'.

'LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE' is a novelette which is the fifth and final book in Emma's 'boxed set' and gives the name to the anthology - THE LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE COLLECTION. A mature woman finds the truth of herself. She cannot go back even though physical and emotional violence erupt around her. Dare she give in to love? Will sexual passion and fear overwhelm her stable life? Who can she trust to love her for herself? Available as a single title or as part of the collection.

As part of the HitLitPro team, Emma is proud to donate her short story 'CHAMPIONS' to the 2014 Movember anthology 'LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS' published by ThornBerry Publishing UK. Nine Mo-Sistas - all romance authors - have embraced the moustache baton and joined forces to support their menfolk. All profits from the sale of the book will go to the Movember charity.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is a short story that takes about an hour or so to read, depending upon your reading speed. Because it is a short story and I assume you read the blurb I'm not going into the plot. Instead I will tell you how I related to the story and if it worked for me. Perhaps that will help you decide if it is for you.
The story is written by a British author so the language may feel different for American readers. Being an American, I had no problem with understanding and only had to check one word to verify it was what I thought. If you are reading on a Kindle you can switch the dictionary to English UK if you need to. It is easy peasey and I have used it often with British writers. I have learned quite a few descriptive phrases this way.
I am a survivor of domestic violence. I know how that colors my world and my thinking. I know how it sharpened my instincts. I also have raised a child on the spectrum. I know the quirks of autism. I know how having a special needs child shapes your world. I haven't met a criminal with a bank fraud background and money hidden away but, after reading this book, I'm open to the experience. Haha.
The story worked for me. I'm not one, though, who wants absolute reality in my fictional reading. Pretty much I feel that is what non fiction is for. In fiction I want some reality, yes, but I want to be told a story. I want to be entertained. I want to escape life sometimes. I want to believe for a moment that the impossible, the improbable, the magical can happen. I want my imagination to soar. For me, the author fulfilled that with this book. I felt satisfied with the story as it is yet I could see the potential for it to be fleshed out to novel length. I feel that is a good sign of the authors ability to tell a good story.
I understand this book is part of a series. I am very much interested in reading more in this series to see how it takes shape.

A single mother to a child with autism. She's broke doesn't know how everything is going to get paid. Your moved to a new city the school officials said that your daughter will be fine walking home from school by her self but she doesn't come home. It's dark time and you hear military and officers above your house. You find out 2 prisoners escape just meters from your house. What do you do?! You go inside and see a man hugging your daughter and she says momma he saved me. Momma he's good right. He's got 32 teeth that means it's an even number and thats good right.
So much stuff happens in here. It's a good book and leaves you wanting more! I love how they brought autism in here. Autistic children are special. It needs reconiztion and needs to be brought fourth. And this right here is a good way to learn about it.
Read the book you won't be disappointed!

I was given a free copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. It turned out to not totally be my cup of tea. I liked the protagonist and her daughter, and I was starting to warm up to Alan. And then, they're in love. I know this is a short story, so by definition it needs to move along quickly, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more development of the romance.

The characters are well drawn and the story is well-written. There's a little twist at the end that I particularly liked.

If a short gritty romance is what you're looking for, this is for you.

I was lucky enough to stumble upon this author by chance and Facebook. This book was short. It was the perfect length for a busy mom on the go like me. I especially enjoyed the fact that the author gave the mom a special needs child. Autism is very near to my heart and has affected our friends and family. This didn't include overly graphic sex scenes which I appreciated. Sometimes the hot and heavy can take away from the love story. I especially enjoyed the twist at the end and it made me wish for a fireplace. If you want something to read that is quick and sweet, pick this book.

Escape To Love Described as an urban suspense-novelette, Escape to Love is just that. And it delivers. The `hero' is this book is an escaped prisoner on the run. Can such a person truly be a hero? Does the ultimate act of heroism in a mother's eyes make him a hero? Maybe not immediately, a mother's instincts are always to protect her child, so would she/could she let such a man into her life and into her heart? Women's instincts play a part, too, in this gripping story of love and trust. Maria, in a way, is also on the run, living a hand-to-mouth existence on a low income. Trying to escape poverty and violent past relationship, her priority in life now is her special needs child. I was intrigued by the dilemma this book presented. I wondered whether the author could pull it off. The story is in the telling. I won't spoil it by telling more. Suffice to say I was sold and would definitely recommend it. I liked the juxtaposition between the working class heroine and the well-to-do hero, which presented love with more of a challenge. Why not get a flavour of the book and take a 'look inside' on Amazon? I certainly wasn't disappointed. Full marks, too, to Emma Calin for making this available as an Audio book, giving the reader an alternative reading pleasure - and, of course, catering for those with sight impairment. For interest, my adult son and partner also read and enjoyed this book.
