This is the 1st of the best albums by Whodini! Back in the day this was a must have album and all the 12" versions. This album used to rock house parties and all parties in general. Esp. when Friends came on, man that is my joint, the crowd went nuts! I can truly appreciate this classic album. Thanks for the memmories!

This album is the soundtrack to my teenage years. Before I got into Run DMC, LL COOL J and SALT N PEPA I was jammin out to WHODINI's "Escape". I remember walking the streets of Boston with my huge boom box blasting this album on cassette. I have seen the japanese import CD go for over $100, I am just thrilled that its finally being released on CD in the USA. Now if only SHANNON's "Let the music play" Can be released on CD in the US then I will be a happy camper!

In 1984, rap was a fresh and exciting new form of music, and this album is certainly one of the greatest of the early rap classics. The members of Whodini have good, clear voices that sound more like a guy you'd want to be friends with, rather than many of the thug rappers today, who sound more like they hate everybody and everything. Another great thing about this album and Whodini is that they're not obsessed about sex, drugs, violence, or being filthy-rich. Most of the songs are upbeat and positive, and even the street tale "Freaks Come Out At Night" is delivered with cautionary positivity. "Five Minutes Of Funk" is one of rap's great early classics, and "Featuring Grandmaster Gee" is basically an instrumental version of FMOF that allows you to kick back and enjoy its funky backbeat without anyone speaking over it.

If want to be considered a "real" rap aficionado, you should not be without this album.

This cd is tight from start to finish. First hip hop album to see platinum status! Five classics on this disc. Friends , Freaks come out , escape , big mouth , and 5 minutes of funk. Whodini can still perform these jams like they did in 1985. The production by Larry Smith is timeless. Tracks are state of the art! This is probally their best work along with Back in Black! Get this cd , you will love it!

OK. For those who don't know Whodini, the Brooklyn-based duo turned trio and their sophomore smash ESCAPE producing 5 radio-friendly hits, count them 1) Five Minutes Of Funk (a freestyle of the future of Whodini, get ready), 2) Friends (the ups and downs of a word they is highly used but rarely used correctly), 3) Freaks Come Out At Night (catchy tune, at that time, the freaks did come out at night, due to this song, the script has been flipped, they are everywhere, anytime THX WHODINI), 4) Escape [I Need A Break] (who in the entire world can't not relate to this song, we all need a break from some stuff going on) and my favorite, 5) Big Mouth (gossipers shut up & stop getting it twisted). This special addiction includes 12" mixes of "Big Mouth" & "Escape" plus instrumentals. If ESCAPE the album featured just a couple of more real songs and not the "Featuring Grandmaster Dee", I'd give it the 5 stars this epic deserves.
